Haha, not sure if this is serious or not? IMO they tend to be awful...

There was a slight overload of sarcasm alex ;) I've avoided most FPS campaigns for a long time now, all the focus is purely on the multiplayer aspect (which is right in my eyes as that's where most the time is spent!).

LOL i know someone who bought BF3 for the single player campaign (he didnt have internet). Same guy also owned all the CoD titles, said it was because he enjoyed the story. :whistling:

Playing the single player campaign unlocks a bunch of weapons for MP... One way to make people play the content! But I agree with Grimezy that the MP aspect of the game is what it is all about.

Tell you what, it does seem slow to install from the disk. But i think that its due to the size of the game, according to the installer it's 26,232.37mb (I presume that's total size, not the size of each disk)

Hmmm alex mentioned earlier he'd installed it off the discs during his lunch break... Does computer spec have anything to do with how long it'll take? Say if you have a higher quality disc drive or if you're installing it to an SSD, etc? I really am hoping it doesn't take an age to install otherwise it's going to be a very disappointing evening of drinking myself silly while watching a progress bar...

Well its going on my Cav black, and its writing at 6.72mb/sec. So its certainly not slow, just 27GB's worth.

yeah not as fast as an SSD, but most people about got 30GB's worth of space sitting around on an SSD. I certainly don't.

edit, around 8mb/sec now, so i wouldn't worry about that.

I was thinking about sticking it on my SSD but with the map packs coming out and stuff it'll probably end up being 50gb by the time they've finished, plus I'd rather keep my SSD as clear as possible for now!

Mines on cav black, not installed 2nd ssd yet.
Edit: also, my bro only plays single player and has bf3, all the cods since cod 4,.
I used to love the cod stories but no other fps stories

Sweet, should hopefully get some good game time tonight then.

We all gonna be on? I may even risk VOIP now they've brought it back :D

I may be on BG4 from around 10.30 to 11 tonight, depending when I get back in from a night out with the missus! If I see any of you on-line I'll try and jump in your games.

A few points to note at the moment... There is a lot of complaining on the forums about stability, micro stuttering, server crashes and lag. Personally I have not had any problems with these at all -- I played a solid 4 hours on a server last night (11 rounds of 32 player TDM, cycled through all maps). There are a few issues I have experienced, though:

* It looks like ribbon awards are not being counted ion battlelog, so any points earned from ribbons do not persist. This menas that you may earn a ribbon during a game that gives you a promotion or unlock, but after the game finishes and the points are 'lost' you don't have the upgrade
* Sound on maps with vehicles can sometime drop out for a few minutes just leaving you with your own gun shots (no footsteps or other noises)
* Queuing system is currently disabled for joining games. Can make getting on to a server a bit of a pian.
* When you reload any bullets remaining in the weapon's magazine are lost, so if you have 20 bullets in the mag and 30 reserve and you do a reload, you'll have 30 in the mag in the gun and none left in reserve. This is apparently only meant for hardcore mode, but is present in all game types and 'may' be fixed at some point.
* Veteran battle packs are not being distributed at the moment, should be enabled later

If you have any XP boost perks from battlepacks I would recommend not using them for the time being until server stability and the ribbon XP allocation issues are resolved, otherwise you won't be getting the full benefit of them.

Other than the above (which is relatively minor!) I'm enjoying the game and, as I mentioned above, not experiencing any of the stability issues reported by other players.

Thanks for the heads up! I had read a lot of negative posts on the battlelog forums but assumed all the happy people were having fun playing the game!

Have you given the secondary monitor minimap a go yet? Is it worth doing? Does it actually work? Is it worth the hassle of digging my 19 inch monitor out of the cupboard and relegating my rig to the floor or small table beside my desk? :D

I'm playing on my centre monitor at about 80 fps at Ultra (though with a 70 FOV and ground decoration at Low) so my left and right are 'free'. I tend to have my GPU / CPU monitoring apps open on the left and then battlelog on the right. When you join a server you get a blue bar along the bottom on the battlelog page and on it you have an option to show the map - I tend to open it up, but to be honest I tend to be fixed on the game monitor and don't really see much on the map! Occasionally I do look over, so I think it is worth it, but it will take some getting used to.

hmm, what do you guys think? any initial thoughts?

I'm going to keep my thoughts quiet for now, wanna see if anyone mentions what I'm thinking without me inadvertently suggesting it.

I can't seem to get a smooth framerate at all whether SLI is on or off and whatever settings im playing on, I get bad lag spikes even on low settings

Really poor work by DICE, I really wanted to play it as well, but its painful to play
