4k buyers remorse / performance issues

You don’t want everything to max by the way, that’s gonna be pretty terrible in most games.

You need to optimise the game. For instance at high res you wouldn’t be using any nvidia super resolution, it’s going to destroy graphics. Obviously that would be disabled for high res, but there are several others in that vein
I mean max as in, set to highest preset then tweak from there, turning off motion blur and the like

Not sure ive seen nvidia super resolution outside of maybe bg3 and wow but never turn them on, games like res5 only have basic settings so nothing crazy to change luckily haha

Currently going through nvidia control panel, turning each setting on and off one by one testing, at this point ill try anything

They do benchmark tests which write very large data files, don't know if it's related to that. 1.7Tb does seem a lot though

What exactly did PCSpecialist replace when they rebuilt the PC? Are there any components they excluded in the RMA replacement?

If this is happening again and PCSpecialist genuinely rebuilt your PC with replacement components, then the issue is more than likely software or driver related. It would be ideal if PCSpecialist tested some of the games you highlighted to ensure it didn't happen again before sending it back to you.

I did some digging and the general consensus is that NVIDIA drivers have been very mixed for the past few months, and most users tend to recommend driver version 537.58 as the last "good" driver: https://www.nvidia.co.uk/download/driverResults.aspx/212776/en-uk

Lastly, are you still using Windows 10 (mentioned on the 1st page order specs)? It might even be worth upgrading to Windows 11 to rule out any compatibility issues. I would only consider this as a last resort though in case you chose Windows 10 for a specific reason.

So this is from pcs rma note - "
We have completed our RMA repair of your system. As this is the second RMA for the same issue we have performed the core rebuild as requested. This included replacing the CPU,RAM, Mainboard, All M.2 SSDs (including the additional M.2 purchased previously) 2.5 SSD, PSU, GPU and the cooler with windows reinstalled. The system has been tested and is operating as expected.

In addition we noticed the RGB strips were faulty as some of the LEDS were not operating. This has also been replaced under the warranty.

To further rule out any hardware or software faults, the system was placed on an overnight stress test. The system has passed these tests with no further faults replicated.

As we have had no further issues with the system and it has been cleared by a second technician’s quality control checks, the system will be released back to you.

We're very sorry that your computer had to be returned to us. We hope you have no further problems."

Funny not even the led was working on the last one lol

But yeah it seems that it was replaced, but i think there is no way to know for sure all parts have been replaced for sure. only the led are in the rma section but prob too many parts to make rma listings for lol

Since that is from 10/10/2023 i dont think it will help since is after the issue started happening but worth a shot i guess

i have tried win 11 before the rma but sadly the issue was the same

Uhhh if i remember correctly it was an upgrade, but think was pretty much a clean install of win10

Also worth to note, i spoke to someone else with the issue a few months ago and they said they where on win 11
I would still try a clean install of windows 11 though

I guess thats my project for today.

How do i do a fresh one of 11? i only have a key for win 10 with the offer to upgrade so i am assuming i will need to get a key?

Since windows 8 you don’t need a key, it’s embedded in the BIOS unless you’re logging on with a Microsoft account in which case it’s tied to the account and will automatically register when it’s signed in.

Any clean install is the same since windows 8, doesn’t change based on version

here you go

Download a new copy of Windows using the Media Creation Tool (Second option on linked page) to an 8GB (min) USB.
Boot that USB and choose a Custom Install.
Delete all UEFI partitions on the system drive (EFI System, Recovery, MSR Reserved, Primary).
Select the unallocated space that results and click the Next button. The installer will create the correct partitions and install Windows.
Run Windows Update repeatedly, even across reboots, until no more updates are found.
You may need/want to download and install the latest graphics driver from the Nvidia/AMD website (they change so regularly the latest version isn't always in the Windows libraries).

This is also worth a watch

When it says deletr all partitions, does that mean i need to wipe the drive that windows is currently on? Or all drives?

Should i ddu the current driver i have before doing this? Or after?

I thought you said you'd done loads of clean installs recently? It's exactly the same process.

Windows only resides on the OS drive, you only need to bother with partitions on that drive. That's why you always have a dedicated OS drive so you don't need to wipe any data

You wouldn't need to DDU a driver on a clean install as it doesn't exist until you've installed it.

I just wanted to make sure i understand 100% everything i need to do this time round, cus i have always seem to break something when ive done these installs lol, the less trouble shooting i have to do after the install the better

The DDU question was dumb sorry , my brains not braining well at the moment.

All drivers are installed through optional updates in windows update, all except the graphics driver which you get direct.

But until the optional drivers are installed things like Bluetooth won’t work

Just to be clear on optional driver updates....

When a hardware vendor submits drivers for their products to Microsoft for inclusion in Windows Update they indicate whether the driver is an automatic install or a manual install.

Automatic install drivers are installed automatically on all systems during a Windows Update run. Hardware vendors will mark a driver as automatic install if they know that this driver is suitable (and required) for installation on all systems using that device.

Manual install drivers are NOT automatically installed during a Windows Update run. They are placed instead in the Optional Driver Updates section from where they can be manually included (and installed) in a Windows Update run. Hardware vendors will mark a driver as manual install if the driver is not necessary (or required) on all systems using that device (ie. it's optional!). An example that I have in my optional driver updates is a Western Digital driver called wdc_sam64.sys. This is downloaded as a manual driver by Windows Update if you have Western Digital Passport external drive. You don't NEED this driver to be able to use the drive, AFAIK it just adds some proprietary Western Digital tools on the external drive that most people don't use (or want!). It thus sits permanently in my optional driver updates and will never be installed.
  • Unless you are having problems, none of the drivers in optional driver updates should need to be installed. On only on a handful of systems I have setup has it ever been necessary to install an optional update driver, and it's usually pretty obvious when you do - because a device doesn't work properly (or at all). In any case, you should always check with Device Manager post-install to ensure that all devices have a driver installed.
  • If you are having problems with a specific device then first look in optional driver updates to see whether there is a driver for that device in there. If so, select it for install and your problems will likely vanish.
  • If you are having problems and you cannot isolate it to a specific device then it is probably wise to install all of the optional driver updates. This will probably add functionality that you don't need, but you can live with that if it fixes the problems you were having.
  • Optional driver updates are there in case you need them. You can always install them all, but it's not necessary to do so. They are a bit like the life-raft I used to carry when I lived on my sailing yacht. You can inflate it as soon as you get it if you like, doing so will do no harm - but it's unnecessary. It's there in case you actually need it.
