PCSPECIALIST PSA: AMD AM5 issue with over voltage requiring BIOS update

Had a look at the QVL list and no changes but from the sounds of it they have made some changes to voltage for RAM which should (hopefully) allow me to use the XMP / EXPO settings without issue. Will ask PCS when they get back to me about my graphics card for the approval and steps just to...

PCSPECIALIST PSA: AMD AM5 issue with over voltage requiring BIOS update

New BIOS out today (non BETA) for my board. Hopefully resolves a few more issues. Seems to have some memory specific stuff around QVL and EXPO/XMP. TUF GAMING X670E-PLUS WIFI BIOS 1616 Version 1616 9.14 MB 2023/05/16 "1. Update AGESA version to Combo AM5 PI 1.0.0.7.a 2. Support 48/24GB...

PCSPECIALIST PSA: AMD AM5 issue with over voltage requiring BIOS update

So was in touch with support. Had me run Memtest86 and got no errors back (in one pass, may run a few passes). They had me try the system with video from the motherboard so I did this and disabled the graphics card. Ran fine, loaded some games. Slow FPS but they ran. Plugged in the graphics...

PCSPECIALIST PSA: AMD AM5 issue with over voltage requiring BIOS update

Attached is the QLV Corsair 6000mhz RAM for my motherboard, one I got in my system isn't listed.

PCSPECIALIST PSA: AMD AM5 issue with over voltage requiring BIOS update

Everything points to it so I'm guessing it is. Will chat with PCS tomorrow and see what they say.

PCSPECIALIST PSA: AMD AM5 issue with over voltage requiring BIOS update

So I had a look on the ASUS site for CountingDowns motherboard (ROG STRIX X670E-A GAMING WIFI) and it supports the 40-40-40-77 RAM which I'm assuming why there are no issues there. From everything I've seen my motherboard doesn't so the RAM in my system is what's causing the issue. I'll ask...

PCSPECIALIST PSA: AMD AM5 issue with over voltage requiring BIOS update

This is the pair, both the same. Still not listed as being supported on my motherboard.

PCSPECIALIST PSA: AMD AM5 issue with over voltage requiring BIOS update

That's the RAM in my system I received. It's not listed as being supported on my motherboard.

PCSPECIALIST PSA: AMD AM5 issue with over voltage requiring BIOS update

It's Corsair memory BTW. There are some other brands supported at that speed bit not Corsair by the looks of it.

PCSPECIALIST PSA: AMD AM5 issue with over voltage requiring BIOS update

Yeah on or off it's the same thing. Had a look at list of supported memory for the ASUS 670E TUF Gaming WiFi and the 6000mhz 40-40-40-77 XMP is not listed. I think they may have put one in by accident that the motherboard doesn't work with. Going by the following page the only XMP supported...

PCSPECIALIST PSA: AMD AM5 issue with over voltage requiring BIOS update

I know it likely won't make a difference but might change it from Auto to XMP and see if it works as it will likely change settings to optimise for that (even though Auto should technically do that).

PCSPECIALIST PSA: AMD AM5 issue with over voltage requiring BIOS update

So on my BIOS (when I got the system) it had EXPO Enabled on the main page. In the advanced settings under the AI Tweaker it was set to "Auto" which I assume knows the capability of your RAM and sets to either EXPO or XMP. Odd thing is the timings on my RAM (checking in Task Manager) were...

PCSPECIALIST PSA: AMD AM5 issue with over voltage requiring BIOS update

Yeah a 4090 will eat up a 4k setting! I'm on a 1440p monitor (have a 4k TV for certain games on big screen). Went for the 6950XT. Price has plummeted on it so couldn't resist the bang for the buck. Hopefully get to give it a proper run soon depending on how long the RMA process is.

PCSPECIALIST PSA: AMD AM5 issue with over voltage requiring BIOS update

Thanks for the info, looks like we have the exact same RAM so if it's working on your AM5 board then it should work on mine. Looking more likely it's faulty RAM but will do the RMA and get it sorted. How is your new system on the whole? Was really impressed with speed and the FPS (for the few...

PCSPECIALIST PSA: AMD AM5 issue with over voltage requiring BIOS update

I didn't see an XMP option. On the main page of the BIOS there is an EXPO drop with enable and disable options. Or is there advanced settings I should be checking?

PCSPECIALIST PSA: AMD AM5 issue with over voltage requiring BIOS update

So one thing I did not check is the type of RAM installed. It's listed as (2 x 16gb) 6000mhz CL 40-40-40-77 I checked and none of the Corsair AMD RAM has this spec. It seems this is Corsair RAM designed for Intel systems. Would this cause the issues I'm seeing or does it not really matter?

PCSPECIALIST PSA: AMD AM5 issue with over voltage requiring BIOS update

So ASUS have removed the warranty bit on all the latest published Beta BIOS for their boards, seems the pressure is getting through to them.

PCSPECIALIST PSA: AMD AM5 issue with over voltage requiring BIOS update

Was thinking that but if it is faulty then it's going back for RMA anyway and if it's not faulty it's still going back for RMA! I'll let them check it out and replace the card if needed. Really don't want to break something by accident (I've changed cards before but when it's under warranty no...

PCSPECIALIST PSA: AMD AM5 issue with over voltage requiring BIOS update

I tried disabling CPB to see if it was maybe a processor issue but same thing. Starting to think it's possibly the graphics card. In any case too many maybes so will RMA it. Just got unlucky, it happens!

PCSPECIALIST PSA: AMD AM5 issue with over voltage requiring BIOS update

Yeah thinking the same, already sent them a mail yesterday so have to do an RMA I suppose. Shame to have to go through it but have to get it sorted out. Nobody's fault, not sure their testing would have caught this since it seems to only happen when I try launch a game and everything else to...
