To be honest, replacing a USB socket is within the realms of any good technician at a repair shop. See Louis Rossman on youtube (He repairs Macbooks primarily) where changing USB sockets is a common occurrence.
However most PC manufacturers/suppliers would probably want to change the...
As mentioned in the other thread, whilst gaming your cpu is probably not used as much. If your clock speeds are all 4ghz, but the package is only using 20w, then the game is not using all the available hardware in the cpu, (eg AVX)
I have just been playing VR games on mine and the cpu package...
When gaming, the cpu isn’t under much load. I’ve just been playing vr games and the average load is 22W, however the clock averages for all cores is 4ghz, this tells me that the vr games are not using all available hardware resources in the cpu and it only needs 22w to maintain the all core...
Looks good! I picked up a Defiance V 16" myself a few weeks back and also very pleased with it!
Regarding temperatures, there is always one or two spots in most laptops that get a bit toasty.. I found setting the fans to 'max' reduces this slightly, as does a slight 'undervolt' which is par...
What model is it? As PCS laptops are based on a few manufacturers, if you give us the model, we might be able to point you in the right direction.
Note also, if using the latest Windows 10, I did a 'reset' last week and lost the Sound Blaster Connect App, In the end I downloaded the full...
You need to graph your temperatures to really know, I've posted in a few threads, but the way modern gaming CPU's work is they can ramp up to incredibly high power levels for very short periods of time and are designed in those situations to hit their thermal limits. but this is occasional and...
I think the only way you will void the warranty is if you either
- Physically damaged things during the re-paste
- Applied Liquid Metal but got it on the surrounding components and shorted things out, causing electrical damage
Grizzly Kryonaut is OK, (12.5W/mk) but Conductonaut (Liquid Metal)...
As mentioned, A sensible undervolt will increase performance, especially for sustained stress testing.
The problem these days is the Intel power management being confusing. (Anyone interested in this, read articles like this that explain the differeing power levels and how they work...
In general, items I don't want to open (e.g. Games consoles), I use an electric air duster, this thing is insane for cleaning out dust from electronics, I use it for internally cleaning my Desktop PC especially fans/radiators...
I think the first thing to do is take a deep breath.
The Defiance V 17.3 is a Clevo P970Ex laptop, a relatively new chassis,
For drivers, https://www.clevo.com.tw/en/e-services/download/default.asp
the correct model to use is "P9x0ED/ P9x0EN / P9x0EF Series"
This should be a direct link...
I'm pleased to report that a fresh install of Windows 1903 worked!
I used the official Win 10 1903 July ISO from microsoft, and just letting it set up everything itself, automatically finding drivers etc, it took several reboots, then opening the windows store, letting it update everything from...
The other thing I picked up when looking is that whilst I thought the same, assuming the rtx2070 full fat would be better than the 2080mq, but when you see the various laptop reviews of the specific laptops it’s not that easy, again thermal management means each laptop will have differing...
I'd also maybe go up to the H115i Pro Cooler (Shame they don't do the H115i Platinum), more cooling is always welcome, and leads to a quieter PC in any given situation.
Thanks,
Pre 1903 upgrade I had already installed from Clevo, and their soundblaster driver is slightly newer.
I see someone on Notebookreview has the same issue, Windows 1903 install has no soundblaster app but does have all the drivers/components installed in device manager. It might be a...
Hi,
So I have a Defiance V, bought without OS, and used my Win 10 Pro license to install Build 1809, installed everything Clevo related, and then windows update upgraded to 1903. Everything was working fine at this point.
As you do, the first few weeks have been trying various benchmarks...
With modern intel gaming CPU's and 2070 GPUs, you need to expect some 'spikes' in temperature due to the crazy levels of turbo-boost (short term) performance that occasionally might happen and the fact a 2070 can generate a huge amount of heat if max'd out.
Modern laptops are a massive dynamic...
I see where your expectations come, although they don't provide enough evidence to suggest (IMO) that a sustained stress test would yield all core 3.6Ghz levels of performance in all situations.
As an example, note this review of what I think is the 17" version of the Vortex IX...
Even in performance mode on my 9750h defiance V, the long term TDP is 50W, under stress testing with Aida 64 that is 3.1ghz sustained with 125mv undervolt. In CB R15, that’s around 3.5to 3.7ghz as it’s not as demanding and sustained temps are mid 70s.
To get AiDA64 stress testing to 3,6ghz...
As pointed out below, best give PCS a ring/contact and get some detailed instructions from them.
I used the following info and it's fairly OK, although the key is removal of the keyboard to access the remaining bottom cover screws!
I'd go as far to say that unless you are fairly experienced...
