PCSPECIALIST Can someone check this laptop spec please?

I would recommend the AMD over the Intel at the moment. What applies for AMD on desktops currently mostly applies to the mobile versions. Depends if the 11th gen Skylake Intel chips do anything different but they haven't been released yet. Early previews seems to indicate Intel beating AMD on...

PCSPECIALIST Nova 15,6 - Keyboard freezing

Have you tried using the laptop with an external keyboard to see if that freezes too? Just to emliminate if the keyboard is faulty or it's the machine itself.

PCSPECIALIST Cooling for Nova 15 Ultra

This user has repasted his CPU and GPU. https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/threads/nova-15-6-review.71280/ As for airflow I've used a raised laptop stand so that it can suck in as much air from underneath as possible. I've not needed a cooling pad but my use case is different from yours.

To be fair, It's used for my KVM cable so no performance hit there.

PCSPECIALIST Nova with 1440p 144hz refresh rate

I've got the 2070 in my Nova and it's running a 32in 1440p 165hz monitor fine, especially if you're not planning on any ultra settings. I've had Shadow of the Tomb Raider banchmarks on 1440p ultra settings and full RTX/DLSS maxed out. I get avg FPS around 48-52 which seems to be around the...

PCSPECIALIST New Nova Series 15.6 Ryzen 9 Laptop

That's a fair point I suppose. My 7yr old MSI had USB 3.0 all round so it just struck me as a bit of a step back.

PCSPECIALIST New Nova Series 15.6 Ryzen 9 Laptop

Just a quick update after having had the laptop a few weeks. Firstly, and this really bugs me and would have made me dismiss the machine if it wasn't so good. Why, oh why, in this day and age would you build a machine that is so potentially powerful and stick a USB 2.0!!!!!! port on it...

    PCSPECIALIST Nova 15.6 3700X

I would advise getting a laptop stand to raise the back at least 2-3ins as the cooling air is drawn in from the vents underneath. I bought a fairly cheap portable one from Amazon that does the job nicely. It's very sturdy as well...

    PCSPECIALIST Decisions, decisions

The RTX 2060 gpu is only a £19 upgrade. That would future proof you a bit more IMO as it's not an upgradeable part. Depends how long you usually keep a system I suppose.

PCSPECIALIST Gaming laptops or desktop replacement laptops

I concur. One of the reasons I went with the Nova. I can run it in the home office or if I need to look like I'm spending some quality time/shared space with the other half I can move it there ;)

    PCSPECIALIST Nova 15.6 budget(ish) build

The CPU in the Nova are the same as the desktop PCs. The GPU are mobile versions but the performance difference between different chips should still be about the same as long as you're comparing mobile to mobile and desktop to desktop. A 1660TI will always be less powerful than a 2060 whatever...

    PCSPECIALIST Nova 15.6 budget(ish) build

Definitely spend the money on parts you can't upgrade unless the price is too good. I don't think I'd go lower than a 2060 at the moment for any sort of futureproofing. The 1600 series GPU are base level at the moment and will struggle with near future releases IMO. You could just order the...

PCSPECIALIST New Nova Series 15.6 Ryzen 9 Laptop

Yeah the refresh effect isn't night and day. I think its a YMMV situation depending on how affected you are by it. If there's no effect I'm sending the monitor back to Dell

PCSPECIALIST New Nova Series 15.6 Ryzen 9 Laptop

I'm happy with the performance of the laptop panel. I've not run any colour accrucy or benchmark tests to be honest as it's not that important to me. On playing a coupld of FPS games on the laptop screen and my current 60hz monitor I notice a subtle difference with the 144hz seeming to give me...

PCSPECIALIST Looking for advice for gaming PC.

You could also finance a PC without a GPU and then buy a GPU seperately if there's a deal going, so the initial outlay isn't too bad. All depends on your cash fluidity I suppose and your PC building expertise. Also, this years Black Friday and Xmas holiday/Jan sales will probably be quite...

PCSPECIALIST Looking for advice for gaming PC.

the 1600 series are pretty much base level now for Nvidia GPUS and will manage for any current games but going forward they'll struggle. If you aren't in desperate need for a PC, wait a few weeks and see how all the new GPU announcements and reviews unfold.
