An update:
I followed Stephen's advice and opened the case. I couldn't see any loose wires or components. I checked that the memory cards weren't loose and that there were no disconnected wires. Then closed the case.

Thank you. I have run Performance Monitor and taskhostw.exe shows high cpu usage but I read somewhere that that is system idle so it means that its 95% unused/idle rather than in use - not sure if that's right?
