Wrong GPU running laptop, and nvidia control panel not working

Hey all,

I got my new Vyper 17 a few hours ago with a rtx 2070 super. However after updating drivers I am still unable to use the laptop.

I found out after trying to run some benchmarks that apparently the GPU is missing, it looks like its running som integrated intel GPU, I tried to deactive and remove the integrated GPU, still no luck.

I uninstalled and installed nvidia drivers probably 20 times or so and have done a dozen of restarts of the pc. I can't access the nvidia control panel, it looks like it is installed but nothing happens when I try to open it.

I get around 2-3 fps in games. This is unacceptable for the price I've payed. I hoped these things would work upon the arrival of the pc, and that I only had to install drives.

I need help,I really hope I don't have to return this laptop already. I am so fed up and sad about this whole ordeal.

Hope anyone can help!

Any gaming laptop has both integrated and dedicated gpu, that’s completely normal, they switch between them for power management.

As above, did you order with windows or without?

I tried different ways.
I tried through nvidias website, chosing my graphic card and I tried through geforce experience. No luck with either.

Changed my mind I am back. If you search for dxdiag and run the program what is shown under display 2?

My suspicion is that the GPU is probably there but because whatever benchmarks you are running have not been whitelisted in nvidia control panel it is defaulting to Intel UHD.

Where do I see display 2? I've run dxdiag and not sure where to look. I am looking under display (it is not called display 2), and I only see the intel GPU under the display tab.

There is an error at the note section with an error 43, problems with the geforce rtx 2070 super.

There should be two tabs at the top of the screen labelled display 1 and display 2. If you aren't seeing 2 its not installed.
Did you reinstall the nvidia drivers after the last time you uninstalled them?
Can you open device manager and do two things.
1. List what is shown under display adapters.
2. let us know if there are any devices there with yellow exclamation marks next to them.

If you are able to post a picture that would simplify things.

*edit* Just read your last post again properly. Would you post a screen shot of the errors in dxdiag.

Yes I did reinstall the drivers. When I looked under devices there are intel GPU and my rtx 2070 super, my rtx 2070 super has a yellow exclamation mark.

Cool well thats a good start.

Are you able to post a picture of the error messages about the RTX 2070 from dxdiag?

Also I would suggest you download a program called ddu. This piece of software will allow you to completely uninstall the RTX card from the system. When you uninstall it normally it leaves things on your system which if are corrupt will just screw up any installation you do.

Once the ddu process is complete download and install Geforce experience and then install the driver through that.

After this is complete restart your PC and check device manager to make sure the card is present and there is no longer an exclamation mark.
Next check that there are two displays listed in dxdiag. Display 1 is usually the Intel UHD onboard graphics and then you should have a second tab Display 2 which will detail the RTX 2070.

I've now tried to uninstall the RTX card with ddu, restarted laptop then installed geforce experience and the driver through it, then restarted the laptop again.

Still the same in dxdiag. And the same error in device manager.

You don't want to install the driver through geforce experience, you need to uninstall that before you uninstall the driver with DDU.

Then you need to install the latest driver direct from nvidia.

My guess is the geforce experience is the UWP version in which case the driver it's trying to install won't be compatible.

I love a learning experience what is UWP?
