Do you know what monitor he'll be using so we can spec accordingly? Make and model is fine if you don't know the resolution and refresh rate.

Hi @sam123 what is your budget and what monitor will your son be using with the PC?

You'll probably find the advice given here is to go for a AMD system rather than an Intel based system as you'll get a better £/performance machine.

Given the value of the components you're selecting and the general budget (>£3K!) I would at the very least opt for silver warranty but I'd probably suggest either Gold or Platinum to increase the coverage.

Built you a Kraken and even managed to save a £...

As above, it needs to be a Super Ultrawide monitor or a 4K monitor to make it worthwhile. Could save a fair few quid on the GPU if the monitor was a lesser spec..

As above, if you want to stick with that monitor then a 2060 Super would still be overkill, but would make more sense. Going with a 2070S or a 2080S with a new monitor would make far more sense than a 2080Ti strix and pairing it with a 1080p monitor.

The idea is to get a new monitor at xmas so he wanted to get a good pc first then add extra stuff i.e. monitors etc for xmas & birthday (both in december) so we /I just wanted to make sure the PC spec was ok before i go ahead with the purchase

There are new GPUs out next month so it would make more sense to go for a build that works for now, then when it comes to Birthday/Christmas etc just get a new monitor AND GPU with the money saved from the build.

You will get a far higher performing system that way (for the money at the very least).

Im guessing it would make more sense to wait a couple of weeks till the new GPUs are out then as buying a monitor is the easy bit, putting in new GPU would be rocket science to me!!!

In all honesty you are better waiting and getting everything at the one time :)

The GPU and monitor are a matching pair really. A high end system would be wasted on a low end monitor, regardless of time before upgrade.

We love you Ukraine
Thankyou everyone, we i think we are going to wait for new GPU before ordering, though a new monitor will still have to wait till Christmas :)
They’re being announced on September 1st with release shortly after so we’ll know more on September 1st
