Win 8 activation troubles

Hi there. Yesterday my new desktop PC arrived. It's working great, but there's one problem: I try to enter the activation code that's stuck on the back of my PC and it doesn't work. Some of the keys in the activation code give me the error message, "Some of these characters can't appear in a product key". I then looked at the sample of what the activation code looks like and noticed that the code I have doesn't have the '-' between every 5 letters/digits, but it also doesn't have the same amount of numbers (the sample has 25, whereas mine has 21).

This has caused one small bug for me as well. I was testing various applications on my computer to make sure they worked - when I was on Skyrim the computer froze and I was taken to the activation screen - I tabbed out to save my game when I noticed that the sound had gone. I restarted Skyrim and the sound didn't return, so I opened iTunes to see if it was yet another bug in that game, but iTunes didn't work either. I then restarted the computer and opened iTunes - the sound worked but there was this awful static crackling on top of it. After closing iTunes, the problem disappeared and the sounds are all back and working fine again. Something else did happen when the computer restarted though - after I restarted the computer, the activation screen no longer showed the last 5 digits of my activation key (which weren't the same as any of the numbers on the stickers that I had). My browser's bookmark bar also lost all it's icons (an error message appeared saying something about preference files being corrupted).

Was I given a bad activation key, or am I doing something horribly wrong (I'm new to PCs)? Help!

AH! Before I forget - I tried connecting my computer to the router I have (I'm currently using an ethernet cable), but the wireless connection failed and I got the following error message: "Error 651: The Modem (or other connecting device) has reported an error." - This is the first thing I tried doing once the PC was finished booting/setting up. How do I fix this?

No sticker on the sides of the PC either?
If not and you ordered an OS from PCS,best give them a call as soon as you can.

Hello there,

What wireless device are you using to connect to the internet, as at the time of ordering you specified no additional wireless device.

The windows key should look similar to the above and is normally located on the back of the PC or on a case side.

Hope this helps!

I sorted the activation thing, thanks! I called up support and they gave me the key, plus told me what the sticker looked like. I saw it immediately after it was described to me. Derp.

I was under the impression that the motherboard had some wireless thing, since it also had in-built 5.1 sound (it was the ASUS P8Z77-V) - I'm assuming I was mistaken? (Thanks for the good and fast responses btw!)

Oh yeah the welcome pack had some stuff..

... I have a white round thing with the ASUS logo on it - the piece looks like a power button symbol, but the straight piece of plastic going through the center can be moved - I assume this sits atop my PC/desk and the cable gets plugged in somewhere?
