Hi, he plays COD mostly. The budget is 1k max but with the ability to upgrade on the future. He'll also need to use it for his GCSE's in a year.

I mean it'll work but it will work pretty badly

10400f is a good very budget CPU but it's two generations old now

1 Stick of RAM will absolutely completely and totally kill all performance though. Any game will run terribly with one stick, so make that minimum 2x8GB sticks of RAM

That PSU is for basic office computers they aren't really designed for gaming machines. It will also limit you for future upgrades

That CPU cooler is pretty terrible, although the 10400f doesn't run all that hot

End of the day mate, no I wouldn't recommend this build. It's old technology out of the gate with little room for upgrades

For £1100 you could go with this, it's very entry level for 1080p but what it does have is a good base to make upgrade. You put a decent GPU in here like a 3060Ti or 3070 and it'll be good for 1440p 144Hz gaming.

Hey @Newbie73 We seemed to have quite a price jump here. Is this for the same requirements as above? Is there a new budget? There's a couple things we'd be happy to edit about the build!

Hi yeah, budget goal posts moved slightly. Realistically my son will only be playing on 1080p the above build is slightly above budget but would like to know if there's anything that could be downgraded to get a close to £1200 as possible without compromising performance too much.
