Will this be good enough to run 4k on a AW3420DW

Im improving my setup bit by bit but the next big step is getting my PC, will these specs suffice to play most games at 4K on a AW3420DW ultrawide monitor??

Can you provide the link to advise edits? It would have been at the bottom of the list you copied and pasted. It makes it far easier to suggest improvements.

Right away:

Better value with Intel right now
You'll want faster RAM
Better PSU
Can drop the optional thermal paste
I would ditch the extra fan
The Wifi card selected is a very old premium option that isn't as good as the modern budget choice
Ditch bullguard.

Just a note while I'm here. The 12600k is a fair bit more powerful than a 5600X and is closer to the 5800X. I think with the future of gaming in mind the higher core count of the 12600k, at this price, is a much better option.

Right now the 12600K E cores are only marginal for gaming and yet the 12600K is basically the same as the 5800X due to IPC gains. The only reason right now to buy the 12600K over 12600 say is the faster clock.

If E cores do become utlilized in the future for gaming (debatable given that AMD isn't using the big.Little approach and consoles use AMD APUs) then the 12600K would probably open quite a margin to the 5800X. Plus for anything outside gaming those E cores are really useful.

The fact that a 12600K system and a 5600X system cost the same really demonstrates how uncompetitive AMD is at this instant. Good CPUs, bad pricing.

So you would recommend the 12600K as it has more future potential and possibility of upgrades?

Would it be worth going for the i7 as it’s newer? Or is that just spending money to spend money?

The AMD Zen 3 processors such as the 5600X and 5800X are great CPUs. The AM4 socket is now a dead end since it will be replaced by AM5 later this year. Nonetheless, you will still have the ability to upgrade to a 5900X or 5950X CPU, so there is a plenty of room to improve still.

The problem with AMD is simply price vs. the new Intel 12th gen. As you can see from the above, you can get a 12600K system for the price of a 5600X system but it performs like a 5800X system. The Intel 1700 socket will be compatible with both 12th and 13th gen. So you should be able to upgrade to an eventual 13700K or 13900K. What I would do is pay the extra £17 for the Z690 TUF board since this is really a very small amount for a better board which may come in useful a few years down the line.

I don't see much point stretching to get the i7-12700K. A 12700K is equivalent to a 5900X in CPU terms so you've moved 2 notches higher. It adds very little in terms of gaming.

Spending extra on a more powerful CPU that you don't need only to kill the cooling potential seems like a very strange choice to me. Not sure if it's been a deliberate switch or not.

The 12700k won't net you anything but a dent in your wallet. The cooler however will absolutely hold the system back. If you want to splurge a bit more cash get a 980 pro or a 530 Firecuda primary M2 drive. At least that will give you a meaningful upgrade.

FYI, and so that you aren't disappointed, your monitor isn't 4k. It's 1440p ultrawide. The 3070Ti is a great fit for it though so it will look brilliant.

my intention was "future proof" with the 12700K but if like you say its just a wallet denter I will go for the i5 one you originally recommended, i will more than likely add the 980 pro also.
as for the monitor, i was lied and deceived by currys pc world as they stated it could do 4k but after trying to sort my PC and picking a few things up along the way i realised it wasnt quite that good but still very good.

Ach that's a shame with the monitor but no surprises with PC World. It's an excellent panel so even though you were mis-sold with the naming convention it's still a good view :D

No point with the CPU in all honesty, if you were getting into video editing or the likes then it would potentially be worthwhile but for gaming there's genuinely no point, the i5 is great value for money and offers a lot.

I would definitely revisit the cooling though. You need something more powerful IMO.
