will 4tb ssd drive fit in slot under graphics card

Hello,

can anyone please advise. I bought a pc from pc specialist in 2019 and it came a 256gb m2 pcie ssd drive fitted onto motherboard.

I would now like to add a 4tb ssd drive to the 2nd m2 pcie slot on the motherboard. The only problem is, is that the 2nd slot is behind (under) the graphics card and the new 4tb ssd drive that i am thinking of buying has a 15mm tall heatsink pre fitted to it and I am not sure it will fit under the graphics card without it hitting it ?

Has anybody had any experience of problems like the above or do you think it will be ok ?

Can you post your order spec? Depending on the motherboard, you might not need a heatsink on the SSD, as the MB has one over the slot.

Also, which brand and model is the 4TB drive? I'd want to check it's compatible with your MB as well.

Hi there,

It will help if you could please post your specs so that we can see what we’re working with. There are lots of variations of cases, motherboards and GPUs that means we may or may not have an idea if the new SSD will be compatible. Additionally as mentioned above some motherboards have heat sinks included.
Sending in a picture could also help us see if you definitely can or definitely can’t fit it in.

If it's the spec that you posted in a previous thread, then the Z390-AORUS-PRO comes with heatsinks on both M2 slots. So you need to buy a SSD without a headsink preferably.

Thanks alot for replying. I am thinking of the 4tb cprsair mp600 pro nvme pcie m2 ssd drive that came up as an option for me in the upgrade option.

The 2nd slot does have a metal cover over the slot which i am assuming is what you might mean could double as a heatsink. the problem is, the ssd that I am thinking of purchasing comes with a heatsing ppre fitted to it.

Yes that is the one. the 2nd m2 slot is the one that is under the graphics card . It is also shorter than one above.

Any suggestions on a 4tb ms ssd card without heatsink that would be suitable as no other comes up as an option on the pc specialist upgrade helper

Your motherboard only supports Gen3 M2, so little value in buying a Gen4 m2, you won't see the benefit of the higher performance. At least not initially, but if you wanted to take the gen4 ssd to a new build that does support, that might be a level of "future proofing".

With the Corsair MP600 being a Gen 4, M.2, it maybe better to go with something like the Corsair MP510 Gen 3, M.2 ?...

A side note to the fitment of the Corsair MP600...
I have two 1TB MP600 one above the GPU and the other below it...

My GPU is almost a 3 slot card deep and still has enough room for the heatsink on my M.2 SSD, to give an idea of space, but mine is a different motherboard to your's
So the M.2 placement on your motherboard could be a little different from mine, you may have more room or less room for a M.2 SSD with a heatsink, but it also depends on how many slots your GPU takes up,
As you can see with mine, Pictured above, I still got plenty of room.
