Which m2 ssd would be more suitable for the Z590 Aorus Elite Ax

Hey guys,

I have a z590 aorus elite ax motherboard paired with a i5 10600k and I wanted to buy my first m2 ssd, I was looking at the Samsung 990 pro but I read on Reddit that the first m2 slot is only compatible with 11th gen CPU’s. I really don’t want to mess it up so I was hoping that somebody could help me choose the right m2 ssd or if that one from Samsung would be compatible in a different slot on that motherboard. I’m really a noob when it comes to pc building so I’m sorry for any mistake!

Have a great day!

ok your best bet is go to the order, scroll down, click on upgrade this order and see what m.2 drives it lists, they should all be compatible with your setup

They'll all be compatible, but be aware that your CPU doesn't support PCIe 4.0 (even though your motherboard does) so there's no point in going for the very fast versions: you will be capped at 3900MB/s.

Thank you very much for the reply! So should I get an PCIe 3.0 instead? And that first m2 slot will be unavailable for me to use it or can I use it anyway with a PCIe 3.0?

I saw a crucial p3 1tb PCIe 3.0 with speeds up to 3500 mb/s, would that be a good option for me? Thank you
They’re very reliable and decent performers. The only area they suffer is sustained writes where they can be very slow, but that would be if you were transferring large video files several gigabytes in size.

As a primary OS drive, they’re excellent

Just one last question guys, that first m2 slot where gen 4.0 is only compatible with 11th gen CPU’s , can I use it with a 3.0 ssd with my current 10th cpu?
