Whats a good ryzen 9 3900x build?

Budget: anything ranking from £2k-£3k I guess but I feel like it does Not need to be that much since its a plan for when I upgrade in the future.

A 3900x is a zen 2 (last gen) cpu, you’d be better off with a 5900x.

if the wait time is putting you off though, a 5800x is more than enough, for the vast majority of peoples needs.

Okay Thank you. Should i upgrade my graphics card also? Currently have a Radeon 5500 and i know it wasnt the best for my monitor. What would you recommend for it along with the ryzen 9?

If you post your full build it will give us a better idea of potential upgrades :)

I wouldn’t get a 5500XT with a 1440p 165hz monitor. You would want to go something more beefy like a 6800, 3060tior 3070 RTX. If it was a 5700XT that might work. But at the moment they cost as much as the newer cards.

It’s a good monitor.

What are your uses? Solely gaming?

would you rather spend most of the budget, or keep it to a minimum?

A really top end 3070 gaming build with an R7 5800X and 3070 isn’t even going to get close to the top end of your budget.

edit: the recommended base will probably be around £2000 or so, then you are able to have luxuries like a 2nd large m.2 for games etc

Although the 5800x should have all your needs covered, you may want a 5900x, but they are significantly more (£200 or so) and have a long waiting time at the moment. Usually 4k video editors etc go for that.

It is £92 price difference between the 5800X and 5900X. I told them to put me down to a 5800X and then changed my mind and they refunded me £92. I sent it back when I changed my mind.

So 5900X is the better option?
It is a good CPU but a long waiting list and they are only getting a few at a time. While they have over 300 in stock of the 5800X. If you build a 5800X with 3070 I can see it being a week or two till you get it as stocks for those are coming to the UK in bucket loads. The discord bot I have goes off 75-100 a day for the CPU and 35-50 for the 3070.
