Can anyone confirm what this make is exactly? “NVIDIA® GEFORCE® RTX 30 SERIES GRAPHICS CARDS (Not Reference Design)”

Not sure if this is just some cheap RTX knockoff or if it’s a legitimate make (it’s from the upgrade tab on PC Specialist website

Its a pot luck on the male and model, but it's all mainstream cards from Palit, Zotac, gigabyte, Evga etc

Generally they are Palit or Zotac branded NVidia cards, though sometimes they can be other brands eg. the one I got was a Gigabyte (mine was an upgrade from them)

They are all proper NVidia cards

Ahh ok, good to know as I’ll be upgrading shortly so happy it’s one of the above as these are the cards I’ve been looking into.

If I order one would I be able to chose what I get or is it like Spyda says (lucky dip) so to speak

Make sure you've got a monitor that can support it if it's for gaming.

Aye, I should be good on my ASU’s TUF VG289Q

Now I just need to find a work around on the PSU option as I bought one cheaper but this website won’t let me order the new one as it thinks I still have a old one installed 😅

That's a 4k 60hz, not much point in the 3080, it wouldn't be used.

What would you suggest? I was originally thinking 2070 or 2070 ti but saw the price difference and didn’t think it was worth going for the lower given the cost difference

Those are previous Gen and aren't made anymore, the 3070 would be suitable, 3070ti if they're not in stock.

No point with the 3080, the monitor would bottleneck it, you'd need a further £1000 for a suitable monitor.

I’ve read it’s probably better to go with the 3080 considering the slight improvements to VRAM.

Also, with games becoming more demanding wouldn’t it make sense to future proof?

What do you need the VRAM for? VRAM is only useful if it's going to be used, for 4k 60, there's no requirement for it.

There's no such thing as futureproofing a GPU, in fact, when you do it leads to more expense and lesser performance as you'll pay significantly more for a card, and by the time you require the extra power, new models will be out at cheaper prices for the same performance or even more.

So you never try to futureproof a GPU, it's a poor way to do things.

Can I ask, would there be any issues at all if I went with a 3080? For the sake of it just simply being the only one in stock for example

There wouldn't be any issues, you just wouldn't use it, it would be like buying a 24pack of eggs and throwing half of them away after a week.

If you've got the money to do that, then you could surely upgrade the monitor to something suitable with it?

Yes, eventually I will be getting a higher refresh monitor, I have my eyes on upgrading a lot, just a shame the person I am when I want to do something I will want to do it all in one go 😂
