what does the release of a new gen of CPUs look like in terms of prices?

So im currently on AM4 and am looking to upgrade both my cpu and card when the 5090 comes out. This, of course, will require me to get an AM5 motherboard or equivalent for the current gen of CPUs. While im sure an AM5 CPU like the X3D version of the ryzen 9 9000 would last me well into 2030 for gaming, looking beyond that, I would like to leave room for growth, so that I won't need ANOTHER new motherboard for a substantial jump in CPU power later down the line. Therefore, i was considering waiting for the AM6 motherboards and DDR6. However, im not sure what the situation looks like when a new gen releases.

lets say that AM6 ad DDR6 release in late 2025. it would be the first generation with those components. looking past the inherent risk of being the frontline tester of latest tech (with how intel chips blew up and all), would they be incredibly overpriced simply because they are "cutting edge"? would it take until 2027 for prices to be reasonable as the tech hits the consumer market? Im looking to learn what it looked like when DDR5 released, to anticipate what will happen.

to clarify, by "reasonable price" i mean the assumption that the latest CPU/ram would match the current price tier of the ryzen 9 9000, which i think is the latest product at the moment. same with the DDR6 RAM. I am aware that companies can go mad with prices (looking at you NVIDIA) but I would like your thoughts if you assume that the world doesn't go mad at that time.

AM5 has been confirmed for support to at least 2027, AM6 won’t be for a good while yet

If you buy a 9000 series, you're guaranteed for upgrades for a couple of generations to come after that without changing motherboard.

I wouldn't wait for AM6, you'll be waiting a while.

DDR6 is slated for release next year, no one can tell you if it's worth it or not. For gaming, I don't think it will net you any real gains as DDR5 is extremely good for gaming at 6000MHz, and it doesn't see any gains over that.

I would just get one of the new AM5 X870e motherboards which exclusively has USB4, that will future proof you for years to come, you won't need to swap out the board at all.

Thanks for the reply. Could you elaborate on what is special about the USB4?
