Hello i am just wondering which CPU would be better for heavy gaming and video editing?

The intel i9 16 core 12th gen or the AMD 9 ryzen 9 5950x 16 core

It’s all relative, the Intel appears to win on raw power but is power hungry and cooling options are thin on the ground. Factor in that AMD are due a refresh in January which could move the goalposts again.

I take it you didn’t pull the trigger on the system suggested in your previous thread?

You’ll be waiting forever if you’re hanging on for the next big thing, tech is moving ridiculously fast right now.

Hi Venatus. I was in a similar position. I’d already ordered my 5950x based system when the Intel release broke, so I was considering cancelling my order and switching to Intel. In performance terms there isn’t a huge amount in it and AMD actually seems to have an edge in heavy multi-thread workloads. For me, the main concern was the support for DDR5 and PCI-E 5 for the sake of future proofing, but in the end I decided to stick with my original 5950x order. It’s a more mature platform and the heat and power demands of the Intel swayed my decision.

Also, PCS were only offering 32gb DDR5 kits the last time that I checked (I wanted at least 64gb). I think that the best advice would be to wait a couple of months if you can – new Ryzen refresh chips and Nvidia cards are due early next year, but as Coop says, you can be waiting forever if you don’t jump at some point. The 5950x is still blazingly fast, and much cooler. It seems that Intel are throwing loads of power at the chip to moderately exceed Ryzen performance.

The advice that I got is here:

If you do go for intel, make sure that you opt for Windows 11 and the best cooler available.

If you want advice on which monitor, it might be better if you could provide a fresh link to the current spec you are considering buying.

Based on the original spec, you were intending to spend around £3k for a 5950X with 3070 Ti. To pair that with a 49" Samsung G9 would make sense. To pair it with the relatively low end 4K 60Hz monitor you've linked to seems an odd choice and would be a bit of a waste.

For gaming I'd say 5900X, as the 5950 is more a production CPU
