In no particular order (cant really order them, they are all pretty epic - also, I'm probably cheating with Borderlands 1/2 etc, but they are both great games!);

  • Tropico 4
  • Skyrim
  • Borderlands (1/2)
  • Witcher (1/2)
  • Saints Row the Third
  • Far Cry 3
  • Assassins Creed 3
  • Diablo 3

Bioshock (Better story than 2)
Bioshock 2 (More versatility in the things you can do, gameplay is improved with being able to wield weapon+plasmid)
Dragon age (The ad-on is poop though and I don't recommend it you unless you just want a bit more to do in it)
Dragon Age 2 (Mages like in the first are still really powerful, more choice in spells for them, too. You can individually level each party member up manually or select auto-level up option)
TES Oblivion (No doubt skyrim would take its place, but I've only played it on PS3 and plan to get it for my new PC, mods FTW)

My brain seems to be refusing to co-operate in remembering more, so if I do happen to remember ill add later, but these are probably what I would personally consider the best games I've played on PC, I've no doubt had over 100hrs of gameplay with Oblivion and probably by a lot and I find myself having long breaks from it but come back to it a lot too. Oh and it's quite old now, but the first Mafia is worth a buy IMO and the PC version is better than the one which was released on the PS2.

And here is the mod that completes Skyrim: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/30638/ ;) if you don't understand why it makes Skyrim, look up the video on YouTube. I'd link it but I'm on my Tablet and it will be to the mobile site.

This is more of a list of what I have fondest memories of, and in no particular order...

Zelda OoT
Guild Wars
CS Source
Bulletstorm
GTA San Andreas
Gran Turismo 3
WoW
Portal
BFBC2
Runescape (people can hate on it all they want but when I played it back in the day I loved it)

And probably more that I just can't think of - but I guess if these are the ones that sprung to mind then they must be winning :)

Coincidence? I think not. :D

Nothing wrong with enjoying Runescape, really. I played it a few times and it helped to kill some time, too. Probably Only for the fact Graphics are quite a major deal maker/breaker for me is why I didn't play it more, or now even. And out of all those you mentioned I've only played two of them. xD

Yeah I think this is a massive factor in some games, I never even would have played WoW, GW or Runescape without friends doing so and we all pretty much quit at the same time too.

Wow, Legend of Mir is ancient now :D I wouldn't have expected it to have been listed, I've never played it myself but I remember there used to be a channel on sky that I watched when I was probably about the age of 7 that was just for games and gaming news, quite often the presenters of it would bring it up and even be playing it throughout the air time, looked like a good game at the time but for some reason I never did get it. I'm certain there was another game they mentioned a lot too that was similar, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was.

I used to buy game magazines that helped me find new games, but that channel helped me to discover FFX (though I didn't buy it until years after) and it turned out to be one of the best games I had played back then, the graphics for the cutscenes drew me in a lot and it was the first FF game I had played the whole way through (PC ver of 8 was the first I played, but it was a demo) - I thought the addition of voice acting was a good thing for the game as I've had a number of games where you'd endlessly be reading and made me want to pull the hair out.

That said, at the time I didn't realise how cheesy the voice acting was until about a year ago I decided to buy it again from a play trade, playing it wasn't as great as the first time I got it but I did still enjoy the game. After that I went on to FFX-2 (Don't judge me!) after having a good experience with the last, i thought I'd try this one, it wasn't great, but I played it to the high heavens and back because of the feature every game should have: new game+ and years on I am still 4% from 100% completion!

Couple of years ago I discovered FFIV on the DS which I initially played it on but couldn't not long after and got it again for PSP a while after, which was quite good but brought back the dreaded reading in mass again, it's a great one but now I've given the PSP to my nephew that I got it for so never got to complete it, it could be quite hard at times though, some of the monsters seemed a bit too strong, at the part I got to last I'd have to very constantly heal my party even with decent gear and still have them die frequently. Other than that the story seemed quite good, had a number of likeable characters, such as Kain and Cecil the main in a way, he lost likeability for me later in the game when certain role changes occurred. It confused me, though that you end up taking a certain child under your wing who turns out to be just as offensive when casting as the main and his friend were in melee, but I suppose it's not the only time they've had really young characters in an FF game like that.

I after that remembered about FFIX which I happened to had played before FFX, but I only rented it at the time for PS1 (It's a real reunion of the ancients here!), had quite a few likeable characters I would say and a story interesting enough for my needs. I also re-discovered this for PSP and downloaded it (my slow Internet at the time paired with what seems to be a speed cap on the PSP made it quite excruciating when I had nothing to do in the mean time) - I think I was either on the second or third chapter, but got stuck at a certain part where I suspect a bug, I was Supposed to light a candle but the last one that apparently leads to the next boss fight never even lit up for me to interact with, so in the end I gave up and let my nephew have the PSP. It too had weird balance at times with monsters easily killing my party, the hardest boss I faced was probably the one in that Gizamaluke's (could be wrong spelling...) Grotto, but I found a nice trick that made it considerably easier as before it was quite the impossibility even with the black Mage exploiting its weakness. This one too turned out to have a couple of young characters, namely Eiko who was both a black Mage and a summoner IIRC.

Before FFx there were the two MGS games which are two of my all time favourites on console (along with snake eater, of course), but a while after FFX I found myself taking an even bigger shine to God Of War, at the time it was the greatest game I have played and even though I never had the chance to play the second I did go on to the third and was not disappointed, still.

For PS1 (this was even longer before I rented FFIX, around the time we first bought that console, infact) there was a game called Bugsbunny and Taz time busters(most probably the earliest game I played with any voice acting whatsoever, oddly enough), it was two player and me and my brother used to play it for ages and often got in to silly fights about it because the other wanted to have the camera follow their character haha, but had a lot of laughs too with it and was a great game for its time.

I hear rumour of a fifth MGS (An actual fifth, not a sub game like the subsistence ones or the one coming out soon where you play as Raiden after becoming a Ninja; Revengeance) in the making, too. I'm not sure how they're keeping the story alive but I think they've somehow got Snake to live on past 4 (If this is true, no idea how - and I mean the 4th game, not the age! xD) and I hope they make it work and don't butcher it, 4 was great but it wasn't really comparable to the last ones, they added a lot of great features, like the octocamo and the stories behind the beauties were interesting to learn, but was made up of what the other MGS's had a bit too much of too, cutscenes and it was at a point where cutscenes likely took up more of the game than the actual bits you have control of Snake in the 4th main installment.

As for playing games with friends, there was a certain online game I played for about four years (was badly addicted at one point too, like it was a religious requirement and I was a fanatic it would have appeared, I played it none stop....) and I actually was the only person out of everyone I know to have even heard of it, let alone play it :D, but later I introduced my brother to the online part of it and for a while we both played it.

Mm, yeah long-posting-syndrome got the best of me, yet again. I don't blame any of you if you don't read it. Haha.

I remember watching that on Sky myself. A bit of googling says that the company called themselves Game Network and they sold out to become Babestation, but I remember the channel being called Gamestation or Gameplay or some such. It was a reasonable way to waste a few minutes when internet connections were bad.
