Video/Photo Editing and gaming PC

Hi People,

If someone could advise me on the spec below from PCS that would be great. I need the PC for some video editing, some 3D stuff my kid does (Unity and roblox studio) and some gaming. I have a pretty good budget for this at about 5K (don't tell my wife). I am not sure if the power supply I have is overkill, also I have no idea about the processor cooling so just picked the most expensive.
For the monitor I will be getting a new one so any advice on a 27/28* screen at about £500 would also be much appreciated.

OK, there's a few things here that I'd adjust, but it's certainly the healthiest of budgets! Could you include the configurator link? It helps with modifying/tweaking your build.

A couple of specific questions: are you sure you need a 7.1 sound card? It's quite a niche use case and only needed for very specific scenarios. And you've selected a Firewire card: are you really sure you need that? It's pretty much a dead standard these days unless you have legacy devices.

For monitors, at this kind of level you're looking at either a super-ultrawide monitor (one of the Samsung G9s) or 4K 144Hz (Samsung G7, Gigabyte M28U).

Thanks you, I will look into a configurator link and see if I really need the 7.1 card. The firewire I need to digitise loads of old video off an old camcorder as there seems to be no external usb option for this.
Do you think the 1000W power supply is too much? should I drop to the 850W?

For your budget 1000W makes sense, even if it is overkill. Unless you have a 7.1 sound setup, you definitely don't need the sound card. The Crosshair has very good sound quality. (It might even support 7.1: I've not been able to find out.)

And yes, it sounds like you are the one-in-a-thousand who needs a Firewire card!

I would reckon even with a 5950X, 3090 (don't go with the Asus), 64gb RAM and 4TB M2 storage + 6TB of other storage, you don't need to pay more than £4,500, possibly £4000 depending on storage options etc.

What you do need to do is up the budget on the monitor from £500. It hits me that's it strange that people want to pair a very expensive PC with comparatively cheap monitor/monitors. It's the monitor you spend all day looking at!

Regardless of your choices, and you have plenty, I would definitely opt for the G9 to make the most out of this in all scenarios. I think the G9 would be absolute bliss to edit video on.

This would be my actual no budget choice of system. The only thing I would probably do differently would be the 150i cooler if it was available.
