I have used USB-C monitors for a long time with this laptop and it was working fine last night when I shut down the laptop but this morning it won't detect the monitors... the built in USB hub does work but I'm not getting any display.

Here's what I've already tried:
* Power off/on
* Different laptop - the monitors connect ok and work with another usb-c laptop
* Different USB-C cable, no change
* Reinstalled latest version of NVidia and Intel display drivers
* Checked thunderbolt driver is the latest version

Any other ideas as to what it is?

What make and model monitor is it?

When you say it's not detecting the display, is no secondary monitor showing in the multi display windows options?

@SpyderTracks it's a Dell P2423DE

Yeah the monitors aren't showing in windows at all, monitor says it's receiving no signal on usb C
Since the monitors are not showing in windows I can't change the display options to display on that monitor.

It seems to be a laptop issue as the other laptop works no problem with exactly the same set up (merely changing the laptop that the usb-c cable is plugged in to)

So if you've got 2 of them, how is it splitting the feed? Is it into a dock or something?

1st Monitor has a DP out and the second monitor is connected by DP to the first so creates a DP chain
Second monitor is a 2423D (no hub, just a DP/HDMI input)

It was all working previously, attached a picture of the set up working. I shut down the laptop yesterday and started it up today and the monitors just aren't being detected now (even though they work with another laptop) and I am totally out of ideas to try :(

Just try it with the one USB C without the daisychain.

Also, is it definitely plugged into a USB C port and not thunderbolt? If it's a thunderbolt 3 port, then it's not compatible with USB C, the two are different protocols that use the same port.

Thanks for the reply

I just tried it with the DP out unplugged and it's the same

I'm using the same USB-C port as in the above picture where it was all working 😅 (it literally was a shut down with it working, turn on and it wasn't)

Is it definitely a USB C port though? Can you take a photo of the port without anything plugged in?

It's this port here
It was definitely working in that port yesterday 😅
Ok, I was getting confused because you said you'd made sure the Thunderbolt drivers were up to date, that has nothing to do with a USB port.

This is long winded, but sometimes can work, it's basically fully resetting and draining the charge on the motherboard.

- Turn off your laptop, unplug the power cable, unplug any USB-C.

- Press the power button for 30 seconds

- Reboot with the power.

The other thing, that perhaps may prevent this from reoccuring, make sure any optional updates are installed in Windows update, it's possible there's a driver update waiting in the wings.
