So this should be pretty good and see me another 10years.

Just upgraded my 6 year old pcspecialist 17.3” Optimus Vll 960m laptop today.

Feedback would be great.

Thanks

Is it true what they are am saying about the 990pro SSDs?

Maybe they should be avoided for now?

Yes, it's true, we don't know too many details yet, weather it's only affecting a certain batch or it's more widespread.

Would you suggest going down to the 980pro atm? I’ve just built a laptop with 2X 990pro and don’t want to run into problems.

I wouldn't go with the 990 Pro to be honest. I don't think they're worth it. The 980 pro is the ideal 500GB drive but after that it's Firecuda for me, all the way.

I’ve dropped down to 2X 1TB 980pro drives now. Didn’t want the risk of the 990pro.

Up to yourself, but like I said.... I would go with the Firecuda for anything over 500GB. I wouldn't recommend a 1TB drive as the primary, you'll end up filling it with un-necessary clutter. Best to keep it trim and looked after to perform optimally. My choice with this sort of money would be a 500GB 980 primary with a 2TB Firecuda 530 secondary.

Unfortunately firecuda isn’t in the option list for the defiance DDR5 so I have further amended and gone to 500gb 980pro and a 2TB 980pro 👍🏼

I'm really surprised by that. I'm wondering if it's an issue with the configurator

I can't think of any reason it wouldn't be available for this particular chassis.

If you would rather have it, it might be worthwhile contacting PCS to request it. It's possibly an oversight :)
