Right, I need a more up-to-date rig, this is for desktop PC (NOT gaming).
Mine getting a bit old and slow and newer HQ videos not playing, and won't upgrade to WIN11.

So, I want to spend as little as possible......can I upgrade my current rig,
consisting of ATX case and Cooler Master 500 psu both ≥9 years old?

By removing mobo, and buying new bundle similar to as follows:

And then re-use SSD and my windows.
Will I need to re-install windows, or will it plug and play without (so that I can keep my setup)?

Any other potential pitfalls or advice appreciated?

We cannot provide advice on non-PCS systems; you would need to use an open forum such as Tom's, Reddit, or similar.

If your current system is PCS, we'll need the full specs from your orders page.

Without knowing what you're old rig consists of, it would be impossible to say.

Can you list the specs of your old rig from your account page please?

It may be that even the RAM is too old/incompatible, and it might be cheaper to build/buy a modern NUC or SFF PC.

And what's with the objection to Windows 11? Windows 10 is about to go out of support then you'll be opening yourself up to security vulnerabilities the older it gets.

Then there's Linux of course....you could go with Linux.
