Troubles with my new Desktop PC.

So I’ve managed to get WiFi after installing the drivers for it.

I’ve attempted to install Windows updates and the NVIDIA driver also which required a restart. I’ve restarted and now my system seems very laggy and can’t even get past the Windows login screen before black screening. Still plugged into the motherboard btw 🤔

So I’ve reverted the latest set of updates and I’m able to get into Windows again.

In Device Manager I’m noticing my RTX 5080 GPU isn’t listed. However, when I boot into Safe Mode, it’s there…

UPDATE: Booted into normal mode and my RTX 5080 is now showing up in Device Manager, but it’s displaying error Code 43, not sure if it’s a hardware or software issue.

Have tried installing the NVIDIA drivers through the app and manually through a USB, but to no avail. Just keeps sending me in a loop saying the installation was successful but still “no drivers installed” 🤦🏻‍♂️

It's part of windows install.

Did you run all windows updates and optional updates after you installed windows? Until then your driver layer isn't setup
Ahhh okay.

Wherever I install the remaining Windows updates and restart my PC, the screen blacks out and lags after restart.

When this happens I keep having to enter Windows Recovery Mode and restore Windows to before the updates to fix the black screen issue again. Stuck in a loop…

Where are you seeing this? Any idea where I can get these drivers?
I was basing that on the warning icons on lots of missing drivers in the device manager.

Depending what the devices are, some will be via Windows Update, others will be motherboard/chipset drivers from the manufacturer website.

So at this point I’m convinced it’s a GPU issue. By disabling the RTX 5080 within Device Manager, this has enabled me to download Windows updates and restart my PC without encountering a black screen issue.

I guess it’s a hardware issue as installing the latest driver and Windows updates still gives me a Code 43 error 🤔

Some of these black screens on 50-series cards are being reported on Tom's Hardware and Gamers Nexus (from 10:33 in their latest video).

There's a comment that CSM was enabled in BIOS after installing the GPU and rebooting, and only disabling it (which should be the default) seemed to fix it - assuming it was not a hardware issue of course.

Pauls Hardware is also reporting it and he experienced it himself when trying to do pre-launch day benchmark testing

So as per guidance from PC Specialist, after trying all other solutions, I ran DDU, had my GPU reseated, and then downloaded the latest driver from Nvidia.

This actually managed to remove the Code 43 error from Device Manager and the Nvidia app was even able to recognise my RTX 5080, so I plugged
the Display Port into the GPU and rebooted.

Unfortunately the joy was short lived as I was greeted with black screens again and Code 43 returned. So currently my PC is only usable with the motherboard graphics and GPU unplugged/disabled in Device Manager.

Contemplating whether to wait for a driver update from Nvidia (who knows how long that will take) or to just arrange a return/repair of the PC…

EDIT: PC Specialist claim they tested everything before delivery and was working fine.

Did you apply the 572.24 Hotfix as described in the video?

Yes, I tried that with no luck unfortunately. The only driver I seemed to have a little success with was the 572.16 driver.
So the hotfix isnt a driver so wouldn’t work on its own in case you’d tried that. You have to have 572.16 installed and then install the hotfix

And you've tried setting the PCIe at 4.0 rather than 5 also?

So I’ve tried the Hotfix with the 572.16 Driver and still no luck.

And yes, I’ve tried PCIe 4.0 instead of Auto. Still getting Code 43.

One thing I’ve noticed is my PC (I think it’s the GPU) becomes very loud after plugging it in. Taking out the power supply from the GPU makes my PC much quieter.

I think you've done all you can.

I was going to say hold out for a driver update, but since you can't use the PC anyway (properly), may as well take this opportunity and return it just in case it is a hardware issue with the card.

That way you're covered from both sides, don't lose out if it's only a software issue, and don't miss out waiting further if it does turn out to be a hardware issue.

You can RMA just the GPU itself rather than the whole system which means you can still use it with the onboard graphics in the meantime

My only worry is if it’s not a GPU issue and something else instead, I don’t want to waste time sending parts back and forth.

Also, I’m no expert, so I’d rather have the GPU installed by a professional if it turns out to be a hardware issue. Also, when I received my PC, the top of the case was off and I can’t seem to put it back on, so maybe there was some damage in transit.

I may just wait it out for a driver update from Nvidia. If that doesn’t work, I’ll likely return the whole PC.

Just remember, your windows still isn't setup, that needs to be done before it will work with a newer driver

No, I believe Windows is all setup now. I was able to download all the Windows and driver updates by using my motherboard graphics only and disabling the RTX 5080 in Device Manager to prevent the black screens.
