Thoughts on my build?

Hey all, this is my ordered build, been ordered for ~60ish working days now and has had numerous amendments to it. I am well aware that the cooler is not apt for the CPU, but I will be changing it to the H150i Elite Capellix when it becomes back in stock. I plan to have a 4K @60HZ monitor by the end of this year, hence the 3080. The build is primarily for CPU intensive programs and use of virtual machines which I use in university work that relate to cyber security fields. It will also be used daily for gaming and streaming. The storage is structured for each use it will have, the 2TB SSD is for games, the 2TB HDD is for junk/images/video/audio files, the 500GB sata SSD is for virtual machine storage, and the NVMe drive is my boot drive for programs and windows. Is there anything here you would change? Or are there any glaring issues? Also, apologies I cannot add a configuration link, as it only links to the original order.

Drop extra thermal paste. Corsair AIO will be with a preapplied quality paste.

I would get 16x2 32GB RAM, not 8x4 as now.

3rd storage (500GB ssd Barracuda) confuses me. Why not second M.2 then, could even be just a PCS 500GB M.2 - they aren't expensive, but still much faster then just an old Sata SSD.

Are you sure you won't need wifi or Bluetooth? I'd get a wifi card just for Bluetooth even though a BT dongle/USB adapter can be bought separately 🙂

Looks pretty good but I'd up the motherboard to a 570
What benefits are there to the X570 over the B550? I only want to have one PCIe 4 storage, not to mention I really would rather not have a chipset fan in the mobo.

What you said about the paste makes sense, I'll drop that when I change.

The reason I went with 4x8 was because I saw that a 4x8 ram configuration with 4 separate single rank sticks actually provides better performance with Ryzen CPUs over the usual 2x16, I don't think I'll need any more than 32GB to be honest.

As for the 500GB sata storage, I WOULD change to an M.2, but there is no option to add a second M.2 drive on the amend configurator, unlike the regular configurator there is no "Additional storage options" choice :(. I suppose I may have to contact PCS on this matter.

I had not considered Bluetooth! I shall consider adding that in now, thanks! ;)

That motherboard won't make it with the Ryzen 9 5900X and as already said, I'd suggest you to to move to a Corsair AIO dropping also the thermal paste

I agree with the suggestions that have been made so far. Here’s my take on things...

3070 is more than capable of running 4K at 60Hz, the 3080 is more 4K 144Hz territory. So you could redistribute money appropriately by adjusting the build.

4x8GB 3600MHz isn’t currently recommended as there’s continued reports of system instability at that frequency. You will get a boost by having four matched sticks of RAM but you’d be safer going for 4x8GB 3200MHz. And you’d likely see little, if any, drop in performance by choosing the 3200MHz.

The X570 motherboard is equipped with higher quality heat sinks and VRM so is a very sensible choice for the chipset. ROG Strix is the way to go.

You should be able to add the extra M.2 drive. In the storage part of the configurator there’s an option to ‘show additional storage options’. Click that and the extra drop down menu opens to give you the ability to add another in.

There were some issues with 4 RAM sticks on Asus motherboards: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/threads/survey-for-amd-ryzen-users-with-four-ram-cards.77077/

When X570 picked, under 2nd storage drive click "Show additional storage options".

Will keep that in mind about the 3070, issue for that is I'm already 60 days into my queue for the 3080 and wouldn't want to lose that now, plus the cost between the 3070 and 3080 is fine for me right now, would be a different case of course had I chosen a 3090.

I thought they had sorted the instability? Does it cause crashes and BSODs? Or do PCS lower the frequency to prevent instability? Nonetheless I will take that into account, I just chose the highest option.

Will change to the X570 then! Wouldn't wanna waste the CPU on a board not fitting for it. (y)

Sadly, even when switching to the X570, I still cannot choose the "Show additional storage options" as the choice simply is not there, I do know what you are both referring to as I saw it when I configured my PC the first time, I will send PCS a message inquiring into this.
