Those who have purchased a Recoil IV

Hello All,

So I think I have Spec'd my perfect Recoil IV but Im yet to see any reviews on the chassis, as I'll be using it for work and university as well as gaming which is its most important use, I could do with knowing if the fans are noisy under general use? how hot does the laptop get? Are the keyboard and mouse pad comfortable to use? Is the speaker sound quality any good?

Thanks all

Sorry for the late response, the laptop is great and you can make the fans virtually silent under general use using a custom fan profile. Laptop gets hot when gaming but doesn't thermal throttle for me if I have it elevated. Still usable when hot though. Keyboard and trackpad are great also. Speaker quality has proved to be troublesome for me. I downloaded the THX Spatial Audio drivers for this machine but sometimes it switches my audio device from Realtek Speakers to THX Audio. Would still recommend this laptop

Thanks mate, I really appreciate the response!

What sort of games do you play, my vice for the moment is Destiny 2 which I end up playing on console as my current desktop doesn't keep up.

Cheers

Downloaded Destiny 2 as I have been meaning to play it, getting 100fps on max settings. I have a RTX 2070 super max-p and 32GB of RAM in my Recoil IV with a small GPU Overclock and a CPU undervolt. I mainly play Gears 5 and Apex Legends where I have my FPS locked at 144 on high settings. If you've any more questions don't hesitate to ask

Not OP, but thinking about getting a recoil. Just curious, is the recoil's webcam compatible with windows hello?

Yes the windows hello feature work perfectly however as the webcam is at the bottom you do have to tilt the panel. This is fine if you are using it on a flat surface but can be annoying if you have the laptop on your lap

I have just received my Recoil IV yesterday and I have just installed my own Windows 10 Pro copy. However, I'm having 2 huge issues at the moment.

1st is - insane, and quite frankly unacceptable, fan speeds/noise that I wouldn't even use it if I can't manage this somehow.

Having said this, and as someone who is quite experienced at desktop PC building, I know there is some sort of fan control that I'll be able to access but could any current users give me some advice on getting this to work?

And 2nd issue - the battery life. Now, the spec suggests a "huge" battery with "typical" usage of 8 hours. Again, I am experienced enough to know that 8 hours is not likely to be achievable most of the time BUT - just with a clean Windows 10 install and the the battery settings set to eco, I'm getting just over an hour at best while I'm simply configuring Windows and settings etc. This can't be right? I had the battery on charge over the night and today it's just not going to last me much more than an hour. Yikes.

Any help or advice with these issues would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. Gareth.

How did you install drivers and have you installed control center? Windows isn’t configured until then and it will run hot and loud.

I've downloaded and installed the drivers from the section on PC Specialist site and used Intel's site to update some of some of theirs further.

Which one is control centre?

Also, even after installing everything and setting everything to either eco, best battery life, office mode etc. I think the fans still are too much for just general browsing folders in Windows or searching Google, writing a document etc.

I even set the fan curve as low as I could and it still was kicking in loud without really doing anything that I would call strenuous.

The fans turned off really briefly for a few seconds and it felt like it was definitely the way it should be, considering the low level of constant utilisation needed for the tasks in hand. It didn't last long and it was like a PS4 Pro🤣.

Any further tips and advice would be much appreciated.

Which power profile are you using in in control/gaming center? I've seen that you've changed the fan curve to custom, but the power profile will also have huge influence over heat and noise.

For everyday tasks, office/quiet mode are advised, while you should change that to gaming/entertainment when using more demanding tasks. High-performance/turbo profiles should only be used for those brief moments where extreme performance is required, like benchmarks or video rendering, as they will likely crank the fans up most of the time, even when idle.
