The thing is, this laptop isnt really geared up for gaming (caveat~ depends what games you want to play though), It has an onboard graphics/CPU combo which will be able to do some gaming but nothing major.

This does not allow me any other graphics card option. is there another model that gives me the RAM and drives on my spec but with better graphics? To be fair I find it hard to know what differentiates each of the PCS models !

As @Stephen M states, there are options available. It will be down to your budget and what you need the laptop to do. From what I can see, this is one of the ultra portable laptops, that may have massive battery life but if you want it to do intensive stuff then it's not the PC for you.

So if I understand my options the Nova or Optimus might be better choices? Portability is not an issue and it would spend most time in the house, often plugged in. I can get Ryzen processor on either but the Nova is dearer. How do I decide which toi go for, budget aside? Your guys help is greatly appreciated!

What is it you are looking to use the laptop for? All round use for me may be completely different to yourself (As to me all round use would include gaming). What is your reasoning for 32GB of RAM? There are very little uses for such RAM quantities.

What is the maximum budget and what would you like to keep the costs below if possible? We can vary suggestions based on the goalposts we are given to work with :)

I went for 32GB RAM because not great price difference above 16GB and that it is better long term to have more than I need rather than less.
I do pretty much everything other than gaming, with a large store of media/high res. photo files and a lot of video stream and download. And Zoom conferencing increasingly. And MS Office work. Just want to have a fast machine, good quality, plenty spare capacity that might last me quite a few years.

I'm still not really getting enough information to give any relevant help.

Do you video edit? Do you use photoshop for high end photo editing?

I ask as what you have described is very basic general use rather than all-round use. All-round use is gaming, video editing, photo editing, programming, VM client use, 3d Modelling/rendering, animation, etc, etc, etc. These are expensive systems and warrant high end hardware including RAM.

Browsing the internet, storing pics and using office software is a completely different animal. You wouldn't need more than 8GB of RAM for such use, most modern systems are now shipping with 4GB (Which I don't agree with btw). 16GB would have you more than covered, now and for the future with such a usage pattern. If moving into more of the above (editing etc) then more could be of use when into higher end usage (editing 4k video etc).

Also, budget is required to be taken into consideration. No point in wasting money.

Thanks for your patience Scott!
I video edit with Adobe Prem Elements, and photo edit with Adobe Photoshop.
No gaming or VM or the other stuff you refer to.
My budget is not specific - I expected to pay up to about £1500 for a really good well spec'd machine.
Got caught up in the options available without understanding what the difference is between a Nova, Optimus, etc.
One hangup I do have is that I want an AMD processor and think I want a Ryzen 7 not a 5 but can be persuaded on that!
Hopefully that gives you enough to go on? Really appreciate this, thank you.
