This is my spec, just waiting for the 10900k. Will the cooling be sufficient?

How important is the 240hz aspect of the build? Are you looking to game competitively or something? Most people won't see anything over 100hz and the most popular selections are 144hz for visuals and performance.

With a 2080 Super you could power an Ultrawide 1440p monitor....

It's 144hz though, so it depends how set you are on 240hz+ affirmation.

With that monitor, if silence is what you are after (while still being powerful) then this is what I would suggest. The 3900X would be wasted....

Ok Scott thanks for your help. I will give pc specialist a ring in the morning and see how’s best to change my order.

From the Intel to AMD it's going to be a cancellation as it's a completely different configurator. Normally they suggest a completely new order.

Idk if I can do the cancellation online of if I need to ring? Would like to know how long the money will take to go back in account so I can get the new order in ASAP.

You can definitely cancel from your account. Not sure how long the refund will take though.

I had a similar email stating build date of 5 July after initial order made on 01/06. I have cancelled my order and went elsewhere and should have my new system next week.

Is this for a custom system or an off the shelf pre-built one? If it's custom, that's some turnaround :)

I've recently seen a video on intel chips and why people are still buying it. Might be worth a look

And as for thermals. I'm not sure I caught what this build was used for. But I've an 10900k with a corsair115i plat and under game load its package temp is between 40c and 50c

Listen to advise here. But you wont have any significant issues with it aside from cost to core.

And significant performance loss for a lot of uses.

Yeah that's true. But if it's used formally for gaming then it's a very good chip for single core performance. And very noticable.
Just my experience though. I dont think it's always fair to jump on a particular bandwagon. Intel still has its place in the market and these forms have been very biased.

OP has said that it's not just for gaming but streaming as well. Intel suck for streaming, compared to AMD.

Okay it's clear your very biased. And that's your prerogative to be.

OP I think it would be wise to seek out other people's views on other forums from people. Many times have I seen in this forums the same people telling folk to cancle their orders their making bad mistakes. It's their view "valid or not" (that's up to the op to figure out) but by the love of all things holy reach out to others than the same select folk on here.

It's not biased, it's based on 3rd party reviews by reputable reviewers.

Even in that video you posted he says the same.

For gaming and purely gaming at 1080p at competitive framerates, then Intel make sense, but that is pretty much the only use case. Outside of that, performance related, cost related and security related, you're making a much better investment with AMD. Remember, this is a 7 - 10 year investment if done correctly.

A conclusion from a very well respected 3rd party reviewer (renowned to be balanced) on the 10900k which is Intels highest desktop CPU and best gaming CPU, and believe me, every single reviewer out there says exactly the same thing:

"The Intel Core i9-10900K CPU is a drop-in replacement for the 9900K, and it shows: Anywhere we previously recommended the 9900K -- primarily gaming -- we could recommend the 10900K. Our biggest issue has been BIOS and the fact that these Z490 platforms feel equivalent to early Ryzen 1000 platforms. They’re buggy, applying settings doesn’t always work like it should, and the boosting behavior is inconsistent from one to the next. That needs to be fixed.

The 10900K also begins to get us into the philosophical debate of how much CPU differences matter for gaming when at its level of performance, but we’ll talk about that more in the 10600K review getting published later today (likely to our YouTube channel first).

Oddly, AMD has the more mature platform right now, despite Z490 being a direct Z390 reskin + WiFi in the chipset. The 3900X would be our go-to for production or rendering boxes. It’s cheaper and it’s more effective. The 10900K is objectively the ‘best’ in gaming benchmarks, and it also has phenomenal room to play around with overclocking (that we still need to explore), so there’s an enthusiast chip here for people who enjoy the OC tinkering scene. As far as gaming-only builds, $500 is a lot to ask, so check back for the 10600K review. If you’re in the pure “FPS snob” category of gaming, the 10900K is the winning choice. For most people, other cheaper options are getting similarly close. For the production classification of users, check the 3900X."

Just to further add, all the computers and laptops in my house are Intel and I've had intel builds in every build since 2003, not because I'm a fan in anyway, but because they were the best performers at the time for my uses. With phones I'm the same, I've had android, IOS, Symbian and windows mobile. Again, I never get one because it's a certain make or platform, I get what's the best choice at that time.

I would never advise based on BIAS, but on that individual users use case and price criteria.

I did my own research as well and *most* reviews and tech guys are saying AMD is a far better choice currently for multiple reasons. I'm not sure any of us here are pro gamers, so what are the benefits?

Intel are also looking to switch to 7nm? And new motherboards? And they've headhunted several AMD staff? This is just what I've read during all this time at home.

Firstly, please refrain from calling peoples character into question. Mod or not, it makes no odds. This forum is as unbiased as you are likely to see. You can take this as a warning if you wish, @SpyderTracks probably didn't call you on it as he didn't want to seem bias against your bias comment but I'm not having that against anyone on here.

Anyone is willing to seek anyone's opinion from absolutely anywhere. The biggest irony is, however, that most forums will choose their choice as the champion of the glory. That is to say, if someone has bought an Intel system.... they will defend it, as that's what most people tend to do.

I am not like that, I am completely against that and I hate people who do such things to attempt to save face. I, similar to most, have Intel everything (Desktop, Laptop, Tablet). The reason I did that is because they were the best at the time. When I built my Desktop I knew a storm was coming with AMD but I did it anyway as I was impatient. I don't have any regrets but I have always said that if I was building now it would be AMD. The 3900X would make my system look silly.

When talking gaming crowns.... Intel still takes it. The margins are so slim that there are, quite frankly hilarious, reviews showing that the 3300X holds its own against the 10900k. It's laughable to consider the 10900k a good call. It's not a bad chip, of course it's not, but anyone buying new has to consider the lifespan of the platform. Sticking £2k into a system (lets be honest that's the ballpark we are at) knowing fine well that the motherboard, CPU and RAM are likely dead in the water is a tough sell. Telling people to go for it anyway is just crazy, but that's the sort of information that those other forum users you speak of fail to comprehend and disclose to people asking. They simply want to highlight the plus points.

Speaking of points..... I started a thread a few weeks back where my Laptop and Desktop have taken a 5% hit in performance thanks to the security patches. Don't believe me? Check Firestrike pre and post patch. The thread is on here if you want to look at it.

I have no loyalty to anyone, I just want to see people getting the best value for money and get a wee fuzzy feeling when I imagine people upgrading their system to the latest tech 5 years down the line having saved an absolute mint and blowing the 10900k out the water. That's the way it's going to go.

Oh, just to add.... while at it with the post history (if you want to), you will see that I disagreed with some advice on here more often than not and still recommended Intel for high end builds over the 2000 series AMD. I only changed my tune with the 3000 series as I firmly believed that AMD really had something with the chips. The platform was a no brainer as it had life in it going forward (but I always tried to recommend the X570 for longevity, even although the B450 is also covered as sorts).

You're just at a funny point right now where the answer is so clear that absolutely everyone who keeps their ear to the ground with this tech is all singing from the same page. it's a rare occasion. The last time life was like this was the AMD Bulldozer getting panned.
