Any reason for 64gb RAM?

The drive setup isn't optimal, you'd need a single 1TB of the fastest for OS, then a dedicated game drive, probably 2Tb I'd suggest, again, fast as possible.

You'd want silver warranty for £5er

I'm using a lot of mods in my games, usually in the 1000s so having this much ram will help me from crashing as well.

I'm thinking of running a LLM locally as well which eats up a lot of RAM.

What SSD combination do you recommend?
Is there another laptop better than the Recoil or is that the top tier one here? I'm a bit speptical of the square 17" instead of the normal widescreen 17.3"

You would want one dedicated for OS and programs, I’d say 1TB to be comfortable.

One for games and virtual hosts, probably 2TB min

That way if you need to reinstall windows (which you’ll need to do at least annually to maintain performance) then you don’t need to re-download all your games or loose your data. It also gives specific pcie lanes for each drive rather than queuing on one. This is increasingly important when working with virtualisation.

The recoil 17 is the big daddy currently, no new chassis to be announced until January next year at CES with release usually in March.
It’s 16:10 aspect ratio which is considered better than 16:9, it’s a premium option. It will be perfectly accounted for in any games. It’s the same res, just with an additional tiny bit on the vertical. So you see a bit more on the screen.

im going to make the buy today, it's a 50-50 between this and a Asus rog strix scar 17 with a 4080 just because the sales rep i spoke on the phone said they are the same price because the Recoil quality is lower, he suspects i'm going to get slightly better performance with the water cooling, what do you think?

I think the watercooler does dramatically improve performance plus it has liquid metal paste although I assume the Asus would as well.

But the watercooler is definitely a huge boost to performance.
