So I was bored and despite the fact I can't test it at this point I filled out the application. In the box asking you why you deserve to be testing the game the words "I like Pie." appear to be perfectly viable to get an ideal rating regardless of the rest of the information you added above on the form to be given access to it.

I cant wait till this comes out, shame it got set back till 2014 :( but good things come to those who wait :p

And so we witness the death of the single player cinematic Elder Scrolls world.
If you remember the last Warcraft RTS that got released after WoW.

As someone who's pretty heavily into TES lore (it's the one ultra-nerdy thing I allow myself :p) I can tell you there's been a bunch of things wrong so far with the details they've released, which has me worried that they're not putting their full effort into this if they're not trying to keep it canon with the other games and the rest of the universe.

For example, one of the factions gets a temporary +5% critical bonus when they read an Elder Scroll. Sorry... when they what?! The things that literally blow your mind if you try to read them?

Further to what Dek posted, Getgamesgo are doing 15% off on preorders (Standard and Imperial edition): http://getgamesgo.com/category/the-...or 15 off The Elder Scrolls Online pre-orders

I cannot believe how expensive this game is considering it is a subscription based game as well... Like really?! £42 for the standard edition, which is basically only 30 days of gametime?! How much is it after that?! (Genuine question, is it like £15 per month?)

I really wanted to give ESO a try but this is really putting me off.

Edit: Sorry just read the link Dek posted in more detail, apparently it's £8.99 per month after the initial purchase time.

Yeah, i think if they werent asking for so much with the initial purchase as well as the monthly costs then i would consider looking into it. Its like theyre trying to get money all ways. I understand GW2 has a special edition release, but thats justified because they dont have a sub fee.
Also dont know if its because if my already negative opinion on it, but to me it looks like you get an exclusive FASTER mount thats is not available for normal subscribers.

Well I apologise for defending this game. I played the beta this weekend and was thoroughly disappointed even though I went into it with real high expectations. Even though the graphics weren't too bad and you could swap between 1st/3rd person, there was just something about it that didn't feel Skyrim-like at all. Even though the combat controls are technically the same, Skyrim just feels so much more responsive and life-like whereas ESO just felt so 'wooden' and stale. I tried using a sword and shield and then tried an archer and found both to be thoroughly dull. I'd heard mages were a bit more responsive but I don't like playing mages so didn't want to give one a go.

I got past the tutorial bit at the start and then turned it off once it transported me off the first island. Did not find it enticing at all...

Perhaps it's one of those games I need to play again in a few weeks... I know I found GW2 poor to start with but have grown to love it. I just really don't know how they'll expect to gain a big fanbase when they're charging so much for the purchase and sub-fee. GW2 was fine as I could come back to it whenever I wanted, ESO is basically going to be you either love it or hate it...

I know how it works, that person sacrifices their eyes for a +5% crit bonus for the cause!

Sadly not, you just get a normal speed mount but you get them for all characters.

I have to say I really enjoyed TESO when I managed to log in, already pre-ordered it and looking forward till april.

Hmmm perhaps I will have to give it another go! I was at the missus's house on her rig and didn't really want to be sat there playing for too long... Saying that, I downloaded the free trial of Borderlands 2 and probably played for 4 hours and only stopped because I figured if I get too far I'll be disappointed when I have to start again on my own rig!

I think maybe the lack of 'numbers' may have made ESO feel a bit bland. I never felt like I was improving...

Ah I felt like i was improving alot, i completed the 'tutorial' section and then the first area. Didnt want to go any further as i did not want to spoil it for launch day.

Yknow I never thought I would say this but im pretty torn about this game now. After watching some first impression vids and reading a lot of comments, it seems to be a love it or hate it game.

@ Grimezy - I agree with your first impressions. Very underwhelmed by the whole thing, but then I heard a lot of people say things open up a lot once you get off the tutorial islands - which I admit I never got past. If this had the same cost as say FF XIV - ARR I would definitely give it another (proper) go, but that initial cost is really inhibiting for me. Call me a cheapskate but for me its a lot of money to drop and continually pay into one game that may or may not hook me.

Very much on the fence.

Completely agree Dek, I didn't manage to get off the tutorial islands either, probably because it was a beta weekend and I didn't want to put too much into it! Saying that I was very bored throughout the first bit and just found myself clicking through all dialogue as quickly as I could.

It's a shame they can't have combat similar to Chivalry does with a bit of weight behind your swings. I don't mind other MMO's because they make things all pretty with big numbers and fancy animations as you level up, I just had the feeling with Skyrim I would forever be slashing and blocking in the same way with no real excitement. I know they had the skillbar and I know that's more 'realistic' compared to MMO's but it just didn't feel right for me. It felt very dull like I couldn't wait for the thing to die because I was dying of boredom.

Ok so ive been doing alot of research on ESO. Seems like after the tutorial missions it REALLY opens up.

A few points that ive picked up -

1. There isnt really a breadcrumb trail of fetch/kill quests that you get with other MMOs - i.e. quests that lead you onto new areas, do all the quests in that area then have one that leads you on. Its more like you talk to random people and then discover they have something to say. They then put a marker on your map to explore that area.
For these NPCs they dont have an explaimation mark above their head so you could easily miss these side quests. Its all about talking to these people, not looking for "!" markers on the map.

2. The quests are layered. Usually when you do a quest, it leads onto another thing, then another. Also at the start of the quests you dont see the reward - thats something you finally see at the end. This places more emphisis on actually what your doing than keeping track of 6/10 rats that you have killed.

3. Grouping can be difficult with co-op players constantly going into instances in certain areas. i.e. if you have cleared a town of bandits but your friend hasnt, then your friend disappears into his own instance. All you would see is his arrow marker even if you are standing right beside him.

4. There are several types of dungeons areas.
- Group instanced dungeons
- Group open dungeons
- Solo dungeons
- open world elite enemies (grouping required)

5. 1st person perspective has a very low fov and is pretty much unplayable in combat situations with more than 1 enemy. Spacial awareness is almost non existent so would not be optimal to play when in a group.

It does seem to have its problems but is definately not as bad as the media make it out to be. Whether its worth the £50 + £9 a month costs is a personal decision.
For me, i'll eat my words on previous posts and say ive done a complete 180. I now think its looks good and have pre-purchased. Could have been a wee snap decision as i ordered it yesterday (my b'day). but the worst comes to the worst, i'll play it for a month and not re-sub - then it'll be like a normal offline game purchase.

PS - the Chivalry combat would be excellent in this game - also with it being online it shouws that it is possible to do!

Ok, another beta happening this weekend. Going to give this another shot. I think this is one of those games that will grow on me the longer I play it. I better hope so since I pre-ordered the damn thing.

I am too (just seen my email).

Thing is, why on this green earth do you need to DL 20GB of data to play a beta which much still be limited in size (i.e. no point having everything in game).

So far, i'm on 0%...and that's at 2mB/s! /yawn

Going to need til Friday to get the thing DLed!
