Well now, there are definitely areas we can optimise this couple of questions first though

Any particular reason for an open looped system? They require a bit of maintenance but if you're confident in that then go ahead they look fantastic

Secondly what's this machine for and what is the budget?

And finally do you have a monitor in mind you're pairing this with?

Hi,
That's a gaming PC for my son and hoping it will last 5 years without any investments. I don't even know what's open loop means 🤣. He's already got 2 monitors. One 4k the other 2k with high refresh rate if that's any good answer.

It's a liquid cooled system or an "Open Loop" generally they require yearly maintenance where the coolant has to be changed. This likely isn't a good fit for your needs then mate

if you know the exact models of the monitors then that would really help us select the GPU to match them.

If you let me know the budget I can help you put together something that will make sure you can get the most for your money, from the parts selected were in the range of 2K+ so no reason we can't put together a build that will last 7+ years provided it's well taken care of and a couple GPU upgrades in it's time

II didn't know that's the name for Liquid system. I can do that yearly maintenance. No problem.

Right ok mate I'll see what I can come up with, and it's admirable that you're willing to take on the maintenance, it can be daunting at first but it's very fulfilling I find

This is what I would do mate personally, then I'd use the left over cash to get a Samsung G9 monitor but that's just me

The 12900K offers so little over the 12700K in gaming it's just not worth it in my opinion

Likewise the 3090 is aimed at production and offers very little over the 3080Ti other than a massive price tag

1. How nessesary cooling is for heavy gamer spend 10 hrs + in one go on a demanding games?
2. Though that 3090 would be better for longevity + slightly better performance ?
3. Not much price difference in i7 vs i9 ?

On your questions

1. The CPU cooler and case I've selected on the non liquid build has more than enough cooling capacity and airflow to handle pretty much any build. Bear in mind the Corsair H150i is a liquid cooling unit but it's what's known as a AIO Closed Loop. The main difference is the only maintenance required is you clean out the fans and radiator fins every couple of weeks

2. Not really how you should plan for GPU's mate you generally match the GPU to the monitor and it's the component in the build that gets changed the most so it's pretty much impossible to "Future proof" it. The 3090 offers nothing the 3080Ti offer except a higher price tag, for gaming he'll never use the 24GB of VRAM it'll just be wasted

3. i9 to i7 in gaming even at such a little increase is still not worth it. It's up to yourself I would pair it with the CROSSHAIR HERO motherboard for the i9 if you wanted to go that direction but it's hardly worth it. Nothing the i7 can't feasibly handle for many years so it's not recommended

Thanks a lot for that . Really need to rethink about it then. Was hoping that I won't have to change 3090 for many years to come but if 3080ti as you said gives more than enough for gaming (at the moment) then it make sense to go for it and then in couple of years change it to 40.. series.

Yeah you can skip the 4000 series entirely with a 3080 mate the jump wont be that big, you only really change the GPU when you feel it starts to let you down which will take a few years the 3080 is extremely good

Now onto the changes.

Personally I wouldn't go with DDR5 I just don't think the performance is there right now to justify the absurd price of the RAM. Also there is no guarantee the motherboard will be compatible with future faster DDR5 RAM, we seen this from early adopters of DDR4 so I just personally wouldn't go there

The storage set up you can see the difference between mine and yours. One 500GB M.2 SSD drive for the OS/Boot drive, the idea is to have this no more than 50% full at all times to ensure the operating system runs optimally at all times

The second M.2 SSD is for your storage, namely the games that will be played. You've went for a SATA SSD which is much much slower than the M.2 SSD's available. Even the cheaper M.2 SSD's are much faster than the SATA 870 you've selected

You don't need the extra thermal paste the Corsair CPU coolers come with their own pre applied high quality paste so this would have to be removed to apply the paste you've selected. Can cause problems where there shouldn't be any issues

That case is no where near suitable for these components, its a budget case designed for budget components. If I'm putting high end parts into a machine I want to make sure the case can provide adequate airflow and space for everything required. Personally for this build I recommend the Corsair 5000X

Silver Warranty is a bargain for a fiver mate

Yeah the DDR5 question is yet to be answered I'm afraid. All I can say is that it'll give you a performance increase for sure but not sure how much that performance increase is worth considering the cost. Hard to say mate, if it was my money I wouldn't but I wouldn't begrudge someone the shiney either

The monitors above perfect for the 3080Ti so good pairing there

I missed your questions at the bottom of the last comment mate so I'll answer these here

Firecuda 530 vs Samsung Pro 980? It's basically a Ferrari vs Lamborghini both are absurd luxuries. Technically speaking the Firecuda is ever so slightly faster so that's why I recommend that but both are top of the food chain

The Z690 TUF vs the Z690 STRIXX? That's the line of the products that ASUS it's basically a quick way to see at a glance which product range we are looking at

Z690 PRIME is the basic budget range
Z690 TUF is their middle to high end gaming focused range
Z690 STRIXX is their all singing all dancing top of the line cover as many basis as possible line
CROSSHAIR HERO is the flag ship, these are the extreme of the extreme. They are simply fantastic the 1%er of the motherboard world.

HERO or the STRIXX would be the two I'd go for. If I could stretch for the HERO I'd do that all day
