I had to post this one, it's finally here. They had announced a delay and it wasn't expected until just before Christmas, but it arrived today.

Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works Volume II 30th Anniversary special edition

In a handmade real oak box, no MDF or plyboard, real wood, and with a custom etched real copper faceplate (each one is different) and copper hinges. The lid is magnetized to keep it shut

You open it up and it's just a little slip containing a booklet, stickers, artwork and a poster all by Aphex Twin, and then the album on 4 discs (with quite a few extras).

I've never seen anything like this before, not of this kind of quality or attention to detail. It's so utterly unique.
They opened pre-orders for about 5 days if I remember correctly and that was it, they made whatever was ordered. And there wasn't much warning so you had to be quick.

Absolutely stunning. A real one of a kind.

If anyone needs any bespoke craftsmanship, these are the guys responsible, I will vouch for the quality

I saw the Japanese CD box and it is lovely.

This is a new tier in quality I think any box set going forwards is going to need to compete with. The actual vinyl pressing, even though it’s bioplastic is stunningly good as well, zero noise floor which is really unusual for any bioplastic

Even the hugely expensive boxes like the John Lennon - Imagine box, yes you get a lot of content, but it’s multi format, I would have zero use for half of it, and the box itself is too big and there little quality throughout the box.

Massive Attack - 100th Window

This has never been reissued, and was released in 2003 on triple vinyl, as such, as it was at a time when few artists were releasing vinyl anyway, there weren't that many copies and finding them in good condition such as this is hard at a reasonable price.

I'm such a huge fan of Massive Attack, and have been lucky with their catalogue so far. I now just need their last album, Heligoland which is hard to find at acceptable prices too even though it was reissued in 2018

Another really important one for me I've been putting off

Underworld - A Hundred Days Off, NM vinyl (well graded) and VG+ Cover, again never reissued since release in 2002, there's only this copy and a whitelabel.

I've been waiting for years for Underworld to reissue this album as they have done the rest of their catalogue in around 2017/2018, but it's just not happening, and as these were early 00's records when they weren't releasing big quantities, finding them clean is just going to get harder and harder while the cost ramps up and up. With their latest album just being released last year, I think there will be renewed vigour as well for their earlier stuff as it's brought them back into the limelight, so it seemed high time to invest.

This completes my studio album collection of theirs, long time coming.

So unfortunately a friend of mine's father passed away recently. She's just been up for the weekend to visit and very kindly gave me some of his records.

Among them were this classic, the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, an original UK copy

Little known nerdy fact, the general copies available have a live version of Jive Talking.

Only the first vinyl press has the original Studio version of that song which this is.

I've been after one of these for a while, they're not hard to find, but to find in good condition is hard. This one has a bit of mould growth and some surface scratches, but I've put it through the ultrasonic and it's come up really well, have high hopes.

I would put this, Blade Runner, Blues Brothers and Interstellar as probably the greatest soundtracks of all time.

The new Mobile Fidelity One Step of Michael Jacksons - Off The Wall, his first solo album, only 3000 made which is quite a small number for an MJ title.

Even though Thriller sold way more copies, a lot of people place this album as his masterpiece. I like his Jackson 5 days, this album, Thriller and Bad, after that I tended to start judging him for his behaviour and felt his music turned quite preachy and two faced.

But I love this album, we'll see how the OneStep treatment has turned out in this instance.

Really special one, I've been holding out getting some proper Queen content for a while, hoping I'd find something like this.

This is an old 1985 Box Set put out by EMI called The Complete Works, the numbered copy, it includes all 13 records they'd done up to that point including Queen Live 1 & 2, and a record of non album content the seller has even included 3 original 7"'s for good measure and they're in good nick too. This was released right after Live Aid.

The box itself has some water damage and a few scuffs here and there, but overall really isn't bad, but the records themselves and the contents have never been touched, absolutely pristine. And the price of this was a real winner.

Absolutely chuffed with this, beautiful set for the collection.
