I was gonna try and hold off until it arrived, but I'm so excited I can't contain myself.
My lovely family have clubbed together to get me another Vinyl Me Please Anthology box set for the Chrimbletime Festivus.
This time, it's "The Story Of Ghetto Records", a collection of extremely rare out of print records from 1970's New York Samba and Latino dance scene. Ghetto records basically created the Latino dance movement in the States, but unfortunately almost all the masters were lost when it went under.
Most of these records have been sourced from the few superb copies of vinyl still in existence (which are incredibly rare), and then remastered by an engineer called Jason Bitner who specialises in restoring vintage records
Interview with Sound Engineer Jason Bitner
Jason Bitner has been the mastering engineer for many of our releases going back to 2015. We sat down with him recently to learn more about the finer details of audio restoration. How did you get into remastering and restoring vintage music?I was working in band instrument repair for many years...culturesofsoul.com
And then the lacquers for the records have been cut by the best in the business - Bernie Grundman
The Story of Ghetto Records
A story told through seven albums of Latin soul meeting the hardest salsa, modal jazz, and frenetic boogaloo – sounds you’ve ever heard, with special attention to telling Bataan’s story and his groundbreaking label.www.vinylmeplease.com
Again, it's not really my kind of stuff although I love Latino music, but it's not the kind of thing I collect, but I find the backstory really interesting and this is such a nod to musical history that I really want to contribute to. Efforts like this need to be endorsed and supported.
Ha ha, that is brilliant! Apologies, I can't help it, I'm so obsessed with records, it's my main outgoings other than rent!I don't know who modified the name of the topic, but it's brilliant
