Just received PC and booted it up and it looks great.

2 issues
-firstly I asked for no OEM to be installed and it came with windows 7 home premium alreadly preloaded (not a major problem)
-on one of the boot screens, it specifies that the hard drive is 1TB at speed 3gb/s when I ordered the drive 1TB WD CAVIAR BLACK WD1002FAEX, SATA 6 Gb/s. I will attach a picture (sorry for the blur). Whats up with this?

Hey Yami,

Can you go into the BIOS and take another pic of the main screen and upload it? It should have the HDDs model number next to "SATA 1".

Il let Meds deal with the HDD issue. We load windows onto every machine we make wether its ordered or not. We do this to allow for proper testing. If you specify no OS we go on the presumption you are installing your own, which will involve a HDD format anyway.

The screenshots are showing that you have the correct hard drive, as the WD1002FAEX is indeed a SATA 6GB's HDD.

It could be our mistake, in that we've connected the hard drive to a 3GB/s port rather than the 6GB/s port. Can you check this by opening up the case, the sata cable should be connected to the grey port and not the blue port.

You can see the ports on the bottom left of this picture here: http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/images/products/1858/2_big.jpg

If it's connected to the wrong port, you can simply unplug it and re-connect it to the grey port.

Apologies in advance if this is the case.

Thanks PCS.. ok before i attempt taking apart the case i've come across another issue, when checking my graphics card info on the ati catalyst hardware info panel it states that my 5970 has only 1gb memory when its supposed to have 2gb? Whats up with that.

The 5970 may show up as 1GB because the 5970 has two GPU's, each which has 1GB of memory. ATi don't make a 1GB 5970 :)

u can make it up to me zep by making me a lovely avatar like yours :D

PCS, I opened the case and the sata cable is connected to the grey port and the blue ports are empty? Could it be displaying incorrectly? Maybe its a driver issue? I dont know :(

Have to admit im drawing a blank on this one. Its the right drive and sounds like the right port. Its not something daft like the drive is set to legacy IDE mode in BIOS?

OK so we've confirmed that you have a SATA 6 HDD and it's connected to the SATA 6 port of the motherboard. Either this could be a BIOS setting or the SATA cable itself.

First, let's try the first bullet point from the following:

p6x58-d_bios.jpg

Let us know how you get on.

You can refer to this page in your motherboard manual on page 2-30 and can access this section from your BIOS "Main" tab by clicking on "Storage Configuration".

Could you check something for me in the machine.

Can you check on the SATA cable that the drive is plugged in with.

Check to see that it is like the two on the right, with the dividing line down the middle. It should be as they are the 6Gbs cables. The one on the left being a standard 3Gbs cable.

Cheers!

PCS, the setting was on [IDE] and ive changed it to [ACHI] and saved/exit the bios but its still displaying 3gb/sec speed.

Gorman I'll try that suggestion now

Gorman, changed to IDE, and the cable has centre line in it so the cable is correct

WHat else could it be? Maybe its not connected properly to the hard drive? Or BIOS needs update?? :S

The connection is ok as it wouldnt be detected at all.

Haha youve really got me on this one. The BIOS should be fully updated and set to AHCI. It being set to IDE at the moment is a problem as setting to AHCI and loading windows will most likely cause it to corrupt.

Usually if its installed on AHCI or IDE it has to stay that way or reinstall.

I need Zeplini, misterdave, PaulH or maestro to come in on this one. What did the call centre say about it?
