I am looking to build a light(ish), portable laptop for doing graphic, video and 3d work on the go. I'll mainly be doing realtime graphic processing using software like max/msp/jitter and vvvv, hence the 2070. I'll also be doing some work in Houdini, for which I need as much ram as possible to cache the renders and sims. I know that I could probably benefit from more CPU cores for Houdini in particular, but as I stated earlier, I want this to be as light and portable as possible, and I do have access to a beefier desktop for rendering heavy sims etc... I also do a fair bit of desktop graphics, video editing and After Effects work.
I tend to dump big files on my desktop and I'm always forgetting my external HD so that's why I've gone with a couple of SSD's - wasn't sure about 2x1TB or just getting a single big drive.
I've also thrown in a 4K external monitor as much of my work consists of patching programs together so I could do with the real estate.
Any comments on the following setup are gratefully received.
