Couple hundred I guess, Uk pounds
On the monitor? That’s fine. With Black Friday sales on the horizon you should be able to pick up something in that price range. Just look for 1080p resolution, 144Hz refresh rate and a 1ms response time. If the kid is after a competitive edge, the latter two figures will be important to him.

What about the system? Have you already purchased the one you originally posted?

Feel like this thread is hard work haha
The suggested build can be improved upon by agentcooper or some helpful others

If you give them the right info they will suggest something that will work for your son!
The more details you can give the better the suggestions will be:
Does your son only play fortnight?
Does he try and make any videos or stream?
Is there access to an old windows 10 PC that will no longer be used after this shiny new one arrives?
Whats the total budget you are looking to spend on both the monitor and PC?

Not pro, for my son who thinks he is a pro tho! All he talks about is FPS so any recommendations welcome , thanks in advance
I guess that's because that's what all his mates talk about. When I was a nipper and HiFi was all the rage (there was only vinyl back then) we convinced ourselves that we needed speakers with a frequency range from 10Hz to 30kHz (or more) - without ever considering whether we could actually hear those frequencies. It's the same today with FPS, more is always better - even if you can't see it. :)

Cheers, I’ll look at those. Yes I have, good enough for fortnite at 144fps? Any upgrade tips to push it further?

Sorry for the pain, I’m a bit off the pace with the job spec. I’ll use the computer I posted with a 144hz monitor and see how that goes; I can always upgrade a part or 2 on his next birthday to improve it as required. It’s only for gaming so I don’t really want to spend a fortune! Thanks for everyone’s help.

It's really not well optimised at all to be honest. You haven't chosen a gaming CPU, it's got graphics on it.... which is a waste of chiplet space. The gaming chips are the 3300+ CPUs from the Ryzen Extreme menu.

When asking for advice it's best to ask before the purchase so that you don't end up with the system in building while querying parts.

As a minimum anyone here will always ask the following:

Budget - We need to know what we are working with
Monitor - We need to know what we are pairing it with to know whether it's even achievable. Refresh means nothing on it's own, neither does resolution. We need to know resolution AND refresh rate, or advise the model number, or just let us know what the budget is for the monitor if not purchased yet.
Uses - Any special use case, particular games that are required. Important as some are more CPU/GPU/Memory challenging than others.

This is all critical information as otherwise we are as well picking advice out of the sky.

If you have a system in mind we always ask that you post up it's spec via the "Post to forum" link from the configurator (after clicking continue). This allows us to go in and easily advise tweaks to the build and we can re-post with a new unique configuration that you can go in and browse.

I would genuinely stop and completely re-think the entire build if I'm honest. You want to make sure that the money spent now, even if not world beating, has the potential to be built upon from a solid foundation. Getting a few key components right is the difference between a modular build and a future paperweight.

Thanks for your honesty. I have gone to edit the build but can’t see the Ryzen extreme menu you mention? I am looking for a build that will play fortnite and similar at 165 FPS, it almost exclusively for gaming use. The budget for the computer is £700. The monitor it will be paired with is

VG249Q1R 23.8" IPS FHD Monitor QY3DE15

Now we're getting somewhere.

Unfortunately the budget just isn't realistic. I'll do the absolute best I can in the next post but £700 does not a gaming PC make at this moment in time.

The "Extreme" configurator is here...

This is cutting every corner I can to shave off the cash. The 3300X would be the obvious CPU choice but it isn't in stock so I've selected the 3600.

Note, there is no fast storage so it's all conventional slow. This isn't typical of modern systems but it's the only way to get the budget down. Same goes with Wifi, this would presume you can connect it via an ethernet cable and not need Wifi. The GPU is the lowest I would recommend for 1080p gaming but you're not going to get anywhere near the monitor you have purchased refresh rate. You would expect around 60-100fps depending on the games. The PSU is also the absolute minimum that I would ever recommend, it doesn't really allow for upgrades but the budget doesn't allow for a more well rounded option.

For context on how I've came about some of the choices above you could have a read at my guide here....

This will explain the reasoning behind some of the options as well as giving an insight into gaming choices & the budgets required to hit certain benchmarks.
