Hey guys

I'm looking to upgrade for the first time in a long while, my laptop 1050ti isn't cutting the mustard these days.

I have a little bit more room in the budget but I would prefer not to spend too much more. Any of your thoughts or insights would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks

Is your heart set on Intel?
I know in the past Intel were the leader but its really, really changed a lot over the past 4 or 5 years.

Its well worth looking at, they tend to outperform Intel in a big way.

Have a dig on the forum, Ive seen posts about Intel vs AMD and also know from when I built my PC Intel was practically an act of self harm

That isn't really true right now. At the moment, Intel is a little ahead, with a newer platform while AMD is at the end of its current platform. Probably the single best gaming chip is the 5800X3D, but whether it's worth buying? I'd probably go Intel right now, though there are AMD builds that make sense for certain purposes and budgets. But probably the 12700K is just about the king of gaming right now for most purposes.

If you can stretch to it, this is what I'd suggest:

Case
CORSAIR 5000D AIRFLOW TEMPERED GLASS GAMING CASE Slightly bigger case with better airflow
Processor (CPU)

Intel® Core™ i7 12-Core Processor i7-12700K (3.6GHz) 25MB Cache
Motherboard
ASUS® TUF GAMING Z690-PLUS WIFI D4 (LGA1700, USB 3.2, PCIe 5.0) - ARGB Ready

PCS GRAPHICS CARD SUPPORT BRACKET

500GB SAMSUNG 980 PRO M.2, PCIe NVMe (up to 6900MB/R, 5000MB/W) Slightly smaller boot drive
1st M.2 SSD Drive

2TB SEAGATE FIRECUDA 530 GEN 4 PCIe NVMe (up to 7300MB/R, 6900MB/W) Much faster games drive (look up Direct Storage)
Power Supply

CORSAIR 1000W RMx SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS GOLD, ULTRA QUIET
Power Cable
1 x 1.5 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead)
Processor Cooling
Corsair iCUE H115i ELITE CAPELLIX RGB Hydro Series High Performance CPU Cooler Stronger cooler

NB that if you buy this build you should message PCS and ask them to install Windows on the 500GB drive rather than the 2TB one, which is what they'd do by default.

For the benefit of OP, the suggested changes above are excellent and would be a big step in the right direction 🙂

Thanks for the feedback. I wasn't aware that direct storage was a thing so it was very valuable.
I've made all the changes you suggested, thing looks like it's gonna be a beast.
I think it's gonna be a long week :D

You Sir, are a saint,

Thanks.
