Hi all,

Please see the PC I configured below. What do you guys think?

Looking to power a M27U - 27" 4K 160HZ monitor.

This will be for games mainly and modding them. So modpacks in Minecraft and Skyrim come to mind. Aside from that, Genshin Impact, FFXIV, FFXV, Helldivers 2 and others.

Max budget is £2700, but any savings are appreciated!

The reason why I didn't go for the 7900XTX (whilst I wanted to) is because the Fractal North TG Gaming Case did not have enough clearance for it, let alone the H115i that I wanted to add to it. If you guys have any other cases that are comparable to it in chicness let me know.

In terms of storage, I have a Crucial MX500 1TB SSD at home given to me by a friend.

Thanks!!

You really want to have a bigger case in play. I've gone for the 5000X as it would house anything you would ever need. If you want a white aesthetic there is a white configurator, not sure how much extra it would be to configure.

I'll do a build in a sec with the white configurator to go for a clean aesthetic.

The GPU options are limited on the white config but you can pick up the 7900XTX White hellhound for £950 to fit yourself and keep you inside budget. Some of the options below are technically better, they don't really add any performance gains, they're just a higher tier of component.

I'll likely go with this build as the white config doesn't have the 7900XTX and I'd like it to be fully built and cable managed because I haven't got the faintest clue what I'm doing with tech anymore.

But one thing I've noticed in your build is that you slotted in a 1000W power supply. The configurator says I only need a 750W?
Also, is the regular 7900XTX the same speed as the ASUS one?

Ignore the calculation from the configurator. It's outdated with how it handles the calculation. 1000w is the minimum I would get for a sustainable system nowadays. It covers all the bases for you going forward. The better option is actually the 1200w Shift as it is ATX3.0, but wasn't sure if you wanted that extra outlay.

There's not a lot of difference in the different GPU variants, they all have similar boost properties etc. If you're happy with the extra cost of the ASUS then there isn't anything wrong with choosing it, you won't be getting much for your money though..... certainly nothing you would ever see on the screen.

The 7900xtx Its the best card on market if you dont want to overpay components. better and far cheaper then a NVIDIA RTX4800 and perfectly suitable for playing all games in 4K Ultra settings with at least over 60 FPS nativ mode and even over 100 FPS with FSR. And as a bonus lower energy consumption. Best price performence ratio.

I would suggest that this is your opinion rather than straight up fact. Head to head the 7900XTX and 4080 Super will trade blows. There's currently very little in price (£20 on the configurator) so really it comes down to what features you want. For VR & Streaming it's a no-contest win for Nvidia. Same goes for Ray Tracing.

Your comment makes it sound very one sided which it most definitely is not. It's also a very strange first post upon joining a forum.

We love you Ukraine
it's strange because you didn't like my opinion?
Opinion means absolutely nothing in computing. Reliable 3rd party benchmarks are established metrics based on scientific test methodologies. Measurements are purposely there to eradicate opinion.

If you're applying any kind of opinion to performance in computing, you're not going about things the right way.

Sure you can be subjective about colours, and RGB, and fancy things like that. But performance, thermals, any metric is an established figure, it's not down to subjective interpretation.

That's the beauty of science and binary. Opinions mean bugger all.

I'm indifferent to your opinion. It's strange to join a businesses support forum with your first port of call to be to give a seemingly biased view on an individual component.

So for my use case, if I wanted the white configuration, is it possible to slot in the 4080 super? Since PC Specialist doesn't have a white 7900XTX at the moment?

Thank you

The 4080 Super would take you to £2850 (or there abouts). It's not available at the moment and is showing grey so I gather that means there isn't a due date just yet.

There aren't any sensible options on the GPU for your uses at the moment unfortunately, if you wanted the white build I think you would be best to install your own GPU.

Hi Scott, when looking to proceed with the 4080S the configurator states that it has an ETA of 03/01/2024. So just 1-2 days. I am happy to wait for that to come back in stock if it means I can build a fully white system. And just to add, is the AMD 7600/7600x sufficient for the 7900XTX / 4080S? Since I will be on 4K instead of the 7800x3D?

I wouldn't personally make that choice. The 7800X3D gives the best performance at any resolution thanks to the 3DCache. The 7600 is a fine gaming CPU though :)

Great thanks. Can I ask, in that white build, do you know the CAS latency (CL) of the 6000MHz RAM that PCSpecialist provide?

No. I wouldn't be overly concerned though as most of the Corsair ddr5 ram has a linear ratio.

Ok thats fine then, thanks. And lastly, in terms of case - so really going all the way back to the start now of this conversation haha. Should I go for the 5000X over the lets say 4000D Airflow RGB? Since it's corsair anyway both are ICUE and both are the same, with only the 4000D being a little bit smaller but potentially with higher airflow due to the front panel?

4000D Airflow will likely have better overall airflow than the 5000X, but it's not going to be any slouch. The 5000X is a great all round case.

The down side is its size, the 4000D can struggle to accommodate larger GPU's and you'll always need to be mindful of cooler configuration etc. With the 5000X you don't need to worry about any of that as it should offer great space and has plenty of airflow anyway.
