Rtx 3080 5 year build

Hi guys!

Please can you have a look at the build below and let me know if there are any improvements I could potentially make. I am looking to build this for the next few years with some upgrades to be made, eg m.2 storage etc.

My main areas of concern are the ram(3600mhz should be good enough I believe), motherboard (as I am clueless about them) and cooling. Will the Corsair Hi150 keep it cool enough for when I want to overclock it? How many extra fans? Is this case a good choice for airflow? Will it all fit together? 🤣

My budget is £2500-£2800. Rtx 3080 and a high end, or at least capable cpu that wouldn’t bottleneck the rtx (current choice is 5800 x) as that seems to be the best option as far as reviews go, are desirable.

I will be using this 144hz plus & 1440p gaming (bf2042 & warzone).

Thank you in advance guys, I’m new to this and YouTube reviews get very confusing after you watch too many of them! Last tower pc I had was used for cs1.6 and cs Source and we all know that can be run on a potato.

You don't need a 3080 for 1440p 144 Hz, so I have picked a 3060Ti (3070 would also be good, but out of stock). I have made some chnages to motherboard and storage as well.

Thank you! I appreciate your input. I will potentially upgrade to a 4K monitor once they become slightly cheaper, closer to where 1440p’s are right now. 1440p is what I’m looking at for the next year or two, but it’s not forever therefore I would still prefer the 3080. For the storage, since the Samsung m.2 drive will be for the OS mainly, it makes sense to go down to a 512gb one, didn’t think that through thanks! Will a previous motherboard choice be okay for ryzen 5800x and 3080 for when I want to overclock it? Also, is the case good for thermals or should I look at other options?

Thanks again!

if you are going to wait till 4K monitors that are compatible with 3080 are a similar price to 1440p monitors now, everyone else will probably be on 6080's, if you're staying 1440p for the next year or 2 then the 3060Ti that @Bigfoot specced is fine, I personally use a 2070 Super at 1440p

I currently own a pre built Omen 17laptop that has a 2070 card & i7 9750h but I do understand that tower performance is better than laptop performance due to thermals and also with the laptop being pre built they probably cheaped out on certain areas. With my laptop, warzone fps fluctuates anywhere from 70-120 depending on the area of the map at 1080p with low settings. I hate the inconsistency of it and limited OC options. My plan is to sell it and use the money to fund a 3080 but if you guys believe that would be overkill then I’ll trust your opinion over mine as it’s my first build. Again, thanks for taking your time and replying to this!

Thanks again Martin. I did a little more digging and after reading forum posts, I have reconsidered going to 4k 144hz monitor as it will make more difference to my gaming experience. Just wondering if the original build is capable of running AAA titles at 144fps/hz @ 4k resolution?

You could could replace the 3060Ti with the 3080 in my suggested build. That would take the cost to just over £2500

Our could too with a little tweak

Awesome. I would like to go with Icue h150i cooler just to ensure appropriate cooling. I am also going to change the case to 5000d airflow. Would you recommend any additional fans for the system and if so, how many? Or will the cooling be sufficient with the case fans + H150 i?

Coming will be fine with case fans and 150, I'm running a 5900x in a 465x on an h100i with just an additional exhaust and stress testing with aida64 it suits nicely at about 72

Once again, thank you, I’m glad there’s people that are willingly helping others on these forums. I have ordered my pc about a week ago now, dying in anticipation now 😭🤣 monitor recommendations that won’t break the bank, or should I wait till Black Friday??

I would wait personally, there have been some insane offers in the past few months, I expect Black Friday to be quite special on the monitor front.

4k 144Hz is really hitting the mainstream now, and they're pretty much all fast IPS or OLED, as such it's bringing the price right down for everyday monitors, and we're seeing some amazing bargains on Fast IPS across the board.

My pc should arrive just before Black Friday, so the timing might just be right 🤞 I’m torn whether to go with Samsung odyssey g7 or a 4K panel that would be 144hz at least. My question is can you switch the resolution back to 1440p if you need them extra frames for competitive games such as bf 2042 or warzone? I would also like a 27” panel or is 4K wasted at 27”?
Thanks in advance!

For competitive you'd be facing loads of frames even at 4k if it was optimised, frames aren't going to be an issue.

Remember that all benchmarks are done with max settings which you'd never use for competitive or normal gaming. So performance will be substantially higher than benchmarks.

Warzone’s optimisation is absolutely appalling to be honest, hopefully the new map is better! I have never experienced 4K gaming or even 1440p, I hope it gives me the wow factor! 😂

With a 3080, you definitely want 4k, there's no point with 1440p, just a waste of a good GPU.

But yeah, just do a google for optimised settings for any game and there are loads of guides on which settings to change which don't affect graphics, but hugely increase frames.

You'll be knocked off your seat. Not just from the higher resolution (which in itself will blow you away, 1080p is really poor), but also of course from Ray Tracing should you wish to enable it.

You'll be utterly astounded. Put aside what you thought of PC gaming until this point.
