Roving blogger trying to buy the right laptop rather than the usual cheap high store

Okay, this is what I think I need.

I have a habit of buying lower powered laptops for my work because they are cheaper and I end up paying for it in the long run. I've suddenly had an exchange rate-based pay rise (thank you US economy) and have decided I am going to get what I need rather than what I can afford. But I need help.

I am PC biased over Macs. Sorry but it's true. It's a curse, I know.

I am a blogger, I write the site BleedingCool.com, and am often on the run. I don't need light per se, but I need rugged and durable I'm also writing 10,000+ words a day. Metal cases and durable keys have done me well in the past.

I am also having to edit photos and a video. More than 2 USB ports, and 3.0 are pretty necessary.

I think I'd like a actual decent processor. I'm on i3 8gb and... I would like things to move a lot quicker. Half a Tb should do me for storage. But maybe it's time to think solid state.

Haven't used a DVD/CD/Blu Ray drive for years. Would like decent battery life.

I also am aware I may be talking bollocks here. But I am looking for advice, recommendations and, frankly, to be told what to do.

You will have my thanks. And plugs on BC if you want...

What kind of budget are you thinking?

There are some Lafite models in the review section with a few different specs if you want some food for thought also :)

The reviews will also help you consider if that kind of chassis appeals.

I think the Hexus one is a good place to start: http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/laptop/87641-pc-specialist-lafite-ii/

If it gives me what I need I'd go up to £1000 though, as I have confessed, my natural instincts would be less.
