Regular BSOD Problems with Ionico Laptop

Hello Everyone,

I purchased a new Ionico Laptop earlier this year in June and more or less since day one, I have been having regular problems with the "Blue Screen of Death" while playing two of my favorite games, American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2. I can get around 5 to 10 minutes of play time (Sometimes a bit Longer) before the computer just freezes and then shows a BSOD with the error code CLOCK _ WATCHDOG_ TIMEOUT. It then restarts, but if I attempt to play the games again the same thing happens. I have already done some research and it says its something to do with the Processor.

I have been trying to get the bottom of the issue by following guides on the web and these are the things I have already tried but nothing has worked.

  • Since they are steam games I have uninstalled and reinstalled both games.
  • I have Verified the Integrity of the Game Files (All good)
  • I have checked my Device Manager for missing or corrupt drivers, but there are none (All up to date)
  • I have Run SFC/Scannow and Chkdsk Commands but all comes back good
  • I have Run the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool but comes back with no issues
  • And Finally I made a new game profile in case it was corrupted but the problematic BSOD still persists.
I have completely run out of ideas now and have no idea what to try next. However, I can not upload any minidumps currently, because even though the computer is set up to make a Complete Memory Dump and it supposedly saves them in the Windows Folder. I can not seem to find the dump file.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thank You

Matthew Fenton

From what I've read, this BSOD could be anything related to a bad CPU, RAM issues, or a Windows update causing system issues.

Looking at your specs, you have a few options.
1) You could attempt to a fresh install of Windows from a USB. This will ensure you get a clean install of Windows, but you will have to back up your files and have an 8GB USB spare to do it. You'll also have to format all drives and ensure Windows is installed to your primary (fastest) storage drive.

You could then click a post I made for another user on getting the most out of a fresh Windows install (some of this won't apply to you for areas such as motherboard drivers, but the rest is generally a good process to follow): https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/foru...r-a-fresh-windows-reinstall.90176/post-686520

2) You mentioned that this has been happening since you first received the laptop. Personally, I would have contacted PCSpecialist after seeing that BSOD more than once but I understand sending back a new laptop is never a fun experience. You do have 3 year gold warranty, so you could phone PCSpecialist and let them know about your issue. The tech support over the phone is usually very good and has come across these issues plenty of times. They'll also likely recommend RMA'ing it.

3) The quickest possible solution would be to check for Windows updates. Just go to system > windows update > check for updates. This probably won't fix your BSOD but I have come across some people who reportedly fixed the BSOD from a few windows updates

4) To my knowledge, this BSOD isn't related to thermals but it might be worth checking for overheating. Download HWInfo64 and enable logging before turning on your game. Check the thermals and see if any components go into the red numbers (90c or above). You could also try turning on your fans to their maximum speed to see if this helps with cooling. The key combination is usually FN + 1

5) Last general question, does this BSOD happen specifically on those 2 games only? Or is it a system-wide issue?

Hopefully this helps.

Thank You for your reply, There are a few things here I haven't tried so I will go down those routes first. This BSOD has only ever occurred when playing American Truck and Euro Truck Simulator 2. Will let you know how I get on.

Thanks

Matt
