Recoil GPU Dead?

SpyderTracks

We love you Ukraine
It's a Recoil III 17.3". RTX 2070 (Non super or max-q)
The new recoil seems to be much better, we’ve had very few issues posted from them.

The closest clevo would be the Defiance, but only has the 2070 MaxQ or full fat 2080.

I would definitely give PCS a call and explain the repeated RMAs though and see what your options are.

I found the page. https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/clevo-laptops/40/

The new recoil is apparently:

Clevo X170SM-G

So that might be an option. No HDD slot is the biggest difference I can see.

@Greenman I had a very similar experience to you with my old Vortex. When I got to RMA 4 (or 5 I forget) either way it was 3 RMA's for the same fault which re-occurred again I asked for a full refund or a brand new replacement laptop of equal value and specification. Very quickly they gave me a choice of the two. Get in touch with the complaints department.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully I won't get to 5.

My RMA was just confirmed for Friday, I'll see what I can do tomorrow.

Good luck with it mate I found PCS customer care team extremely when I had my issues.
Cheers.

Spoke to them this morning and its going to be refunded when they receive my laptop. Due to be collected tomorrow for RMA anyway. Very helpful and understanding person over the phone.

There's a note on the order that I'd accept a replacement, which is my preferred outcome. (If refunded I'd just buy another from them anyway I think.)

I'm looking at a 2080 max q Defiance or 2070 Recoil. Both very similar in price and performance to my current Recoil III.

So got a reply today regarding the RMA. It is the motherboard as suspected again. Right now my options are a repair or part refund, either to me or as credit to a new machine. (Deductions due to the age of the machine apparently. Ordered 02/2019, but total RMA time with the various failures add up to around 4 and a bit months).

Waiting on a reply for now as they didn't go into detail about how much said deductions might be. Hopefully not too bad, as a different machine is still my preferred option. Warranty ends in Feb, which is when I suspect the motherboard would probably fail again. Not a cheap fix. Hoping to get something sorted before the new year, but I know they're very busy.

Personally if I were you I would be pushing back a bit to try to get a brand new chassis at no extra cost. That being said PCS response isn't actually unreasonable when you look at the consumer rights act.

*Edit* Sorry its the Sales of Goods Act 1979

Knowing that this is your 4th RMA, I would try a different chassis to prevent this from happening again after your warranty expires.

That's the plan anyway.

Yeah, just depends on how much they're talking really. It's a little old I guess but a lot of that time it's been with them as well, so. .

Waited on the phone for an hour the other day to get through to find out the person I was in contact with was on break. Luckily they sent me an e-mail as well, hoping I'll get a response there.

Yeh and that's why I am suggesting that perhaps you have a conversation with them and see if out of "good will" they will replace it for a brand new different chassis of equal spec for no extra charge.

That being said even though they have had the laptop for 4 months by my count and correct me if I am wrong you will still have had the laptop for 17 ish months after you minus the time its been in RMA?

Your statutory rights at this point are exactly what PCS are offering you. A repair or partial refund taking into account the length of time you had the laptop.

Ye, spot on. When I say it depends on the deductions, I simply mean between choosing a new one or accepting the RMA. Customer service wise they've always been great.

Right I'm with you mate. Like I said have a chat with them see if they would waive the difference in price and just go for a straight swap. They can only say no.
