Receiving 1Mbps since getting new PC - no other devices are having issues

Hi,

I received my new PC last week. Everything works fine aside from the fact my internet has been terrible.

I cant seem to watch any streams without it buffering. If I am playing any kind of game I cant really do much else on the internet without something being affected. Ive tried seeing how it is when everyone in my house is offline, and I still have the same issues. It sometimes cuts out completely too (probably happened once everyday so far).

I have a WIRELESS 802.11N 300Mbps/2.4GHz PCI-E CARD.

Ive seen a few other threads on this same kind of issue - I do have the antennas installed. I have checked many times a day for windows updates and there are none.
I read about connecting via ethernet to see if it is only a wireless issue but since my router is downstairs, id like to try any other possible options before having to do this? or would you recommend ruling this out first?
When moving the antennas around the signal strength changes alot, if they are pointing to the ground, I get full bars. If not, I sit at 2-3 and can definitely notice it so I feel like its definitely a signal issue?

My internet package with Sky says my wifi should be around 68Mb/s. Ive never had any issues with my wifi before, neither has anyone in my house.

Just looking for some ideas on what I could do to improve it/what I can rule out. Ive also heard about purchasing USB dongles etc, would they fix this totally? I could also get a broadband booster from my internet provider, and have a router upstairs aswell as downstairs, not sure how much that would help in this case?

Thanks :)

I believe the antennas should always be pointing directly upwards.
The signal strength itself shouldnt be the issue with the speed you get, I would suggest taking the antennae off and reattaching them, just incase something is going on there.

Have you had a look at device manager to see if theres any issues flagged with the WiFi card?

I would be eyeing the antennae very suspiciously in your shoes...

Undo them, reattach, when reattaching be careful to make sure its screwing on correctly/the screw thread is seated properly (so should screw on cleanly, no force applied).

The driver is outdated through windows, just need to install the latest one. I don’t have the link handy atm as in mobile but if you search tenda wireless n PCIe I believe it’s one of the first results on the tenda uk site.
I wasnt aware of this :O

Would a previous version driver cause that much disruption?

Possibly restart, but it should prompt you for that.

Have you tried reseating the WiFi card and Antennae?
If its not a case of it physically not being inserted properly or the drivers, then you'll need to speak to a real techie (moderators or PCS themselves).

You could try downloading the driver again to a specific folder, this time (can create a restore point just in case) use device manager, remove the current driver and then update, and tell it where to look rather than letting it search online?

Before you do that though, it may well be worth taking the antennae off, reseating the WiFi card (take it out and put it back in) and reattaching the antennae. That should at least rule out one thing.

I only know a few basic steps like that, although the only other things i can think it might be would be a faulty WiFi card.
You would need a proper techie or PCS if that doesnt solve it.

You can only do that with an individual .inf file whereas I think this is an exe installer.

Ah.
Would removing it and then running the exe do the trick then?
Least that way you would know if it installs or not.
