Thanks, my current moniter is outdated at 50-60hmz and will be upgrading that in due time. My main use for the computer is gaming but will also be using it for Netflix etc. My budget is not huge and with the computer sitting at £900 I don't want to spend much more unless it will be worth it in gained performance. I'm new to PC gaming and have been wanting to upgrade from my console for a while but building a pc is a lot more complex than just choosing your GB size when you buy a console 🤣

First off id recommend jumping to 3200ghz RAM because the price increase is small but you do get much better performance - especially with AMD cpus (they LOVE faster RAM). Before anything else can be said, we'd need to know what games youre likely to play, whether you're looking for 4k etc. Anymore information would be helpful :)
Thanks!

A few thoughts:
  • Why the 3600? It's been replaced by the 5600 now. Is it down to cost? The 3600 will be fine for gaming for a while, so at your budget that would make sense.
  • You don't need the Strix board - the TUF Gaming or even Prime B550 boards would be fine.
  • 8GB of RAM isn't enough - you won't be able to use this for gaming when it arrives, you need 16GB (2x8GB), ideally 3600MHz - 3200MHz is also fine.
  • For drives current advice is to go for a smaller M.2 for your OS (256GB or 512GB) and then have a larger SSD / HDD for games. Might be worth looking into playing around with this in your budget constraints - but having the OS on a faster drive will make for a faster computer.
  • The 550W PSU will make it harder to upgrade in future if you want to. I'd suggest a 750W (or 850W) RMx if you can stretch to it - usually increasing the wattage on the PSU is really cheap (I think I even saw the 850W being cheaper than the 750W recently).
  • Upgrade to the Intel wireless card.

The big one for me would be that RAM - swap the motherboard for cheaper B550, and get yourself 16GB RAM.

I'll be honest mate with the price increases £900 won't go far, I would honestly recommend saving for another while and putting at least £1200-£1300 into the machine as this will drastically increase the quality of the build. The difference in a build at £900 and a build at £1300 is astronomical and will provide you with a base for future upgrades as well

Completely agree here. Iv chucked this together with only marginal changes and you can get a much better spec for your money @ £1187. You really are better off holding off and pulling together another couple hundred £££ to really maximise your performance and also give yourself some future proofing. £900 isnt gonna cut it for more than the next few years, the way things are heading in the market.

Agreed. A cheaper mobo and 3200 RAM are the quick wins.

Yep I'd second that, with only £900 you might get a machine that will be fit for nothing in a couple of years, whereas with about £1200-1300 you'll get a base that can be upgraded

With the 2060, this come to £1106. This would be the bare minimum I would recommend, but it will do the job and provide a nice foundation for future upgrades.

As others have said, if you can wait it is worth doing. Prices are sky high because of the world situation, hopefully by Summer/end of Spring they will drop.

RAM is not over costly to replace but the PSU is, a better one will allow for future upgrades, especially the GPU.

I'm not really looking for 4k gaming, it'd be nice to have but can't justify the budget increase. I currently play alot of games like call of duty etc but want to transition into games more like ARK.
Thanks for your advice!

The budget was the main reason for not going for the 5600 and as this is my first gaming pc I want to make sure I actually enjoy PC gaming before I spend a fortune on it and it all adds up as I've discovered 😂.

I'll add the M.2 to the build. What's the difference between the b550 motherboards other than price?. I'll also look into upgrading the RAM and PSU.
Thanks for taking the time to read my config and making suggestions

To be honest, i’d strongly recommend a solid base, get a 1080p card for now and upgrade it once you can, for 1440p.

I definitely wouldn’t get a pc, with the OS on a HDD though.

with a 4000D though i’d add the extra 2 fans for £9.
