RAM upgrade advice

Hi all. My laptop was configured and built in 2021 and I'm looking to upgrade the RAM. I found that the motherboard is a Clevo NHxxDPx, and the specs listed by PCS for memory are:

Memory Type: Supports DDR4 2666MHz
Number of Modules: 2 x Modules
Maximum Supported Memory: 64GB

Does this mean I can't get anything above 2666Mhz with an overall of 64Gb? Or can I at least buy two 64Gb? Thank you

Can you copy and paste your full specs from the order page of your main PCS account?

Yes. I'll paste almost everything, even though it's probably more than necessary.

If you go to the upgrades section of your account you can order the correct RAM through there. It’s a max of 64Gb combined.

Its not just the type, it’s speeds, voltages, timings etc.

RAM works in dual pairs so you need a matched pair.

Just mentioning as people don’t understand RAM, it doesn’t increase performance in any way adding more if the program you’re using doesn’t have Any requirement for that amount

Thank you for your advice, but I'd rather not do this through PCS. My experience wasn't that great. I did check the Upgrade section and it's recommending the following three options:
1 x 8GB Corsair 3200MHz
1 x 16GB Corsair 3200MHz
2 x 8GB Corsair 3200MHz
So, is 16GB the maximum? Now 3200MHz is the max, not 2666? I don't understand this. I would like to get 2 x 32GB, but I'd like it to be compatible and not waste money.

Since DDR4 is outdated in 2025, those are most likely the only modules available through PCS.

Furthermore, because you only have one stick, your current RAM operates in single-channel.

I would like to get 2 x 32GB
What for? What's the purpose of that laptop?

It has two slots, one being unoccupied.

I'm a graphic designer. I know the best option would be buying a new laptop, but I'm leaning for the moment for the cheaper option: upgrading some parts.

As said, RAM is dual channel so you’d need to buy a matched pair and replace the existing.

I would get some good quality 2 x 32gb 3200mhz, it won’t be that much more expensive and the board will just clock it to the max it can

That's why it operates in single-channel. As previously stated, RAM works in pair to operate in dual-channel at the nominal frequency. Your RAM is operating at half frequency right now.

Laptops are not upgradeable; the only components that may be changed are SSDs and RAM. Which programs are you using?

Open up your graphics design software, load your most complex design, or multiople designs, and open every other app you typically use at the same time. I want you to have the most complex work running that you need running to do your job so that you're using as much RAM as you're ever likely to need.

Then open Task Manager, click the Performance icon or tab (I forget which it is on Windows 10) and then click the Memory icon. You'll see two graphs at the top, a big boxy one showing RAM use and a small, horizontal one, showing the various mamoery management areas. You'll also see some numbers at the bottom. Post a screenshot of that whole window making sure that we can see all the numbers at the bottom.

From those numbers I can tell you whether adding more RAM will bring you any benefit. I might save you money....

I know RAM is dual. I was only confirming that only one slot is occupied.
I would like to get these. Thank you for confirming that 2x32, 3200MHz is compatible. And thanks for the help.

I already upgraded the SSDs. I'm with Adobe, and I'm not very happy with the Memory usage. Plus, I do a lot of webmastering and use multiple browsers which eat quite a bunch.

I see you have a single M.2 (Corsair) and a SATA SSD (unknown brand); I strongly suggest purchasing another M.2 to keep the OS separate from your work drive.

RAM:

1) Kingston: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Kingston-Impact-64-3200MHz-KF432S20IBK2/dp/B097QK6M3W/
2) Corsair: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-Vengeance-RAM-32GB-DDR4/dp/B09DTG3BD7/

That’s pc memory, wouldn’t fit in a laptop.

For laptops you need SODIMMS which are a different physical DIMM
Thank you for pointing this out. I forgot about that. I'll buy these then.

I replaced both SSDs with two Samsung 990 Pros. 1TB for C: and a 2TB for D: drive. Thank you for pointing out the RAMs. I was looking at the same Corsairs and will go with those.

Thank you both! It's much appreciated.
