Quick sanity check before ordering (thanks!)

Hi All,

I was posting around a month ago and the advice and feedback was fantastic. Since then, my 7 year old chillblast PC has died. SO, instead of me behaving and waiting until September/October to order, I now need a new PC asap! That's what I get for trying to be sensible.

Primarily gaming and photo editing for work. Monitor will be purchased for this rig. 1440p minimum, thinking of ultrawide to get the most out of the 2080 Super.

I'm just asking for a once over glance, in case there are any glaringly obvious issues?

Thanks a lot.

Looks pretty good! Is the second M.2 in there to be used as storage or a scratch drive, out of curiosity?

@AgentCooper I hadn't intended it, more as the 'games drive'. Good point though. I don't know how much it needs it for the sort of work I do though.

@Nursemorph I actually dropped down from the X570 to save a few pennies, as I couldn't see a huge benefit between the two (other than as you say, upgrade options). I never upgraded the cpu on my 7 year old pc, so I'm trying to be completely honest with myself in terms of what will be of actual use to me. Other than the upgrade potential for the new new cpu's, is the X570 much better than the B550?

I was tempted by the XT, purely for the single thread performance for gaming :D. The price creep is real though.

Well, the 570 board has more VRMs (basically they regulate the voltage across the chip) so will make the CPU more stable.

Given photo editing shouldn't need a scratch drive, I'd actually remove the PCS M2 drive altogether, add in the XT and the 570 and you end up saving £4 :eek:

I think Photoshop dumps stuff into a scratch drive when RAM is an issue but I'm not massively educated on that. OP, I'd trust @Nursemorph (y)

@Nursemorph thanks for this mate.

I'm going to stick with the extra M2 purely because I'm cramming all of my games and apps onto one small one at the moment, WITH my OS. Quality of life to have 1TB ssd separate from the OS will be huge for me (plus not having to uninstall something every time I want to download a new game etc).

The HDD is for the tonnes of photos + media, so it makes sense to me.

I've been researching the 3800XT and I can't see a huge difference in real life performance in gaming/photo editing, so I'll probs leave it.

Not sure what to do about the mobo. Every penny saved here goes on the screen, which is why I dropped it to the B550, but given your comments...lol.

Now I need to find a good monitor!
