PSA: The REAL limitation of 8Gb VRAM

We love you Ukraine
Just tagging onto this, Jayz2Cents has just done a really good video of this issue on new cards

And this is the latest VRAM usage summary at all resolutions, do have a look at 1080p per game, as you may be surprised just how many games are requiring over 8Gb, and quite substantially over 8gb in some cases

This isn't just an NVIDIA issue, AMD were just as bad with their entry level cards in the RX7000 series with the RX 7600 being only 8Gb

And factor in, at these lower tiers, things like frame generation is far more an important option as these would struggle for "acceptable" frame rates, yet to apply DLSS or FSR4 requires a VRAM buffer on top of the game requirements, same for Ray Tracing.

Fingers crossed AMD are better this generation on the entry level, last gen it was really Intel that were leading the way for entry level cards

Also, please remember that RTX5000 GPUs dropped support for PhysX, so a lot of older games just won’t run anymore without a dedicated PhysX accelerator.
