Politics section?

Hi PCS,

Is it possible if we can have a politics section? I think we could have some interest and intelligent discussions. Sure there may some be disagreements but as long as everyone is civil, there shouldn't be a problem.

What do we think?

Sorry tom but I've got to disagree, political discussions are a certainty to cause a lot of heated arguments and disagreements big time.
It's actually against forum rules at present and I think it would to be best to keep it that way.

Yeah, I've got to agree with this as well I'm afraid, can cause all sorts of problems.

At the moment, there's a consensus on the forums, we dont even get the old nvidia vs amd Or intel vs amd discussions anymore. So what if there are disagreements or arguments, at least it would be an interesting debate. If there are loads of members raging at each other, then we can deal with the situation if and when it arises.

in my opinion it would make the forums more interesting and involve intelligent discussions. Not doing something because people will argue is just a soft in my opinion.

I don't see a problem with it to be honest. That's why we have moderators, for when people get a little carried away. Everyone's entitled to share their opinion :) As long as people don't start aiming/swinging personal insults at each other then it can be discused just like every other topic :)

I'm a moderator on a football forum that allows political discussion. By and large the members on there are an atriculate and intelligent lot (I know that sounds like an oxymoron for a football forum) but the poilitcal threads really do bring out the worst in people, it's surprising. The forum isn't family friendly either (profanity allowed) so when the poilitics get going things do tend to degrade into name calling, slanging matches and point scoring matches.

I'm not against it on here at all as I very rarely get involved in hem personally, but I think it would increase the moderators' workload significantly. Maybe even to the point of needing more.

FACT: I got one of our other moderators to order his new PC from here yesterday after showing him photos of my build, he as so impressed with it he scrapped his planned build and came here. FTW!

Well it would be a little unfair to automatically assume that everyone here would be the same as your football forum, Boozad, me old chum.

You could instigate a 6 month trial period and if it makes things worse then you could always take it away again :)

You could put in rules.

Everyone has to address each other as 'The right honorable gentleman/lady' and finish each post with 'in my humble opinion'.

You should all have display a moustache in your signature too....

If it's politics a rule should also be to never actually answer a question, and simply state a well known PR fact.

I'm getting cynical here.... I'll stop.

- Talking rubbish.

- Not really making a point.

- Helping very few people.

- Serving own interests.

Pretty sure we already have a section like that ----> here

I'd never assume that mate. But it really is amazing how people change when politics is the topic of conversation, I work in an aerospace company where again, by and large, people are level-headed and hold some form of intelligence and can hold articulate conversations, but mention Maggie Thatcher and they're up for punching seven bells out of each other. It's why I stay out of political discussion, I've seen too many people fall out over politics and I don't personally like losing friends (or making enemies) just because we have different views.

Like I say mate I wouldn't be against PCS having a political section whatsoever, I just wouldn't frequent it through personal choice.

Not sure it's the best idea, might be interesting to see how it goes though.

Wouldn't wanna get involved in the discussion myself, would stick to moderating it cause don't think I could do both. :D

It's just one of those things where it's difficult to even touch on without it escalating, for better or worse.

I for one would like to see a politics section. Out of the many forums ive been on the people on here seem to be the best behaved. Given that when political opinions are being expressed this could change, but as mentioned before thats what moderators are for and also surely theres no harm having a go for a trial period?

In anycase i have a specific subject matter i would like to hear peoples opinion that is made for that section!

In my humble opinion,

I would love to try it on the forums, but I have a fear, here is my fear:

We have had people getting at each other before, but as alot of you guys know where pretty quick with the moderations, we're light with the ban hammer but heavy on no swearing, no blatant arguing etc. We have had instances in the past of usually sporadic outburst by certain people, some of whom have been respected members for some time (I'm not divulging into whom), and it happens, people start typing faster than they think as a retaliation to someone, by the time they've realised they've made an error, they don't admit it, and carry on arguing, losing face in the process.

I simply don't want to set anyone up to fail to create a volatile topic subject, for example, I'm quite a fan of Boris Johnson, I think he's a hell of alot smarter than he lets on, and that one sentence alone with already have peoples mind crying with outrage going 'but he's a floppy haired Eton *you-know-what*', and that's as quickly as it starts, as if an argument ensues, sure we can bring out the moderation, we can warn the, tell them off, ban them, but in all honesty I'd love to completely stay away from this.

We already have 3 topics that can problems, computers, cars and football, so adding another potential argument doesn't fill me hope sadly, although I have every confidence the people who have posted in this today, would do it properly.

That is my feelings your right honourable sirs.
