Pcspecialist Nova: Use of In-Build micro

Hello everyone!

I bought recently a Nova laptop, what a wonderful machine!

However, I'm having a little issue, whenever I put my headphones the in-build microphone stops working. Is there anyway for me to put headphones and still be able to use the in-build micro? Or will I have to buy headphones with micro?

Starting to potentially look like a batch of bad sockets.

Just inserting headphones should not disconnect the internal microphone. If you look at headphones with a mic, they have an extra ring, or pin, at the end. This is the bit that would normally disconnect the internal mic to reroute to the headphones mic.

Headphones that are only headphones don't have this third ring and don't cause the disconnection (or shouldn't, anyway).

Hello. I'm the user with the same issue. Is there any chance that this is a configuration or driver/software issue? A return has been suggested but if there's a solution which I can easily carry out at home that's obviously preferable. If a return is needed then I'll go ahead. Thank you.

As above, it appears to be a hardware issue.

Hi Paulo,

Thanks for getting back in touch, sorry about that. That depends on the headset you are using cheap android headsets may not work the best headset to buy would be one designed for windows 10 as these will come with the 2 port connections for mic and headset.

Here’s a list of headsets we sell that should work with the system and the cost for delivery to mainland uk is £7.20.»

This was their reply, does it make any sense?
'Cause I think it doesn't.

They are trying to sell me some new earphones, I have sony, they are not bad, they just don't have the mic. Why can't I use the in-build mic?

What headphones do you have? What make and model?

I don't believe new headphones will work, if I am honest. If this was an isolated case, perhaps, but you are at least the third person to report the same issue...

In their response they also seem to miss the fact that your headphones do not have a microphone (I am right in saying that, yes?). That means there should be no extra pin to disconnect the mic on the socket on the laptop.

On my other laptop, I can use those headphones and use the in-build micro...
Yeah, that’s just a standard 2 pin connector no mic, there’s absolutely no reason that should be cutting the mic unless there’s a problem with the port or there’s a bit of software that’s automatically doing it due to a bug.

Just further, I reported the issue to the admins yesterday as was worried they may not see the pattern, so they are looking into it, it’s just the guy that took your call as @Tony1044 says probably didn’t understand the issue you were facing.

It’s definitely NOT something you’re doing wrong or that the headphones are incompatible.

Yeah, they don't have mic.
I'm getting weird responses from PCS, now they were telling me that the problem is probably due to me using cheap android earphones, like...what the hell?

What did you email them initially? Reply and put a link to this post, they’re just misunderstanding the issue.

Hi Paulo,

Thanks for getting in touch sorry to hear you are having audio issues with the Mic,

Can you send me a photo of how you are plugging in the headset and also confirm the headset model number. Can you send me a screenshot of the program audio device settings you are using to make the calls?

Hi!

So, I'm sending you the file with the photo of how I'm inserting it.
The headphone model is: Sony MDR-ZX110 White (but this is irrelevant).
Program audio? What? I tried to use it in teamspeak, and in games. But I don't even know if this is what you're looking to know...

Hi Paulo,

Thanks for getting back to me this headset MDR-ZX110 comes with a single audio jack and the laptop has a input for audio and mic separate so may need a splitter or a head set that is compatible with window 10.

new reply:
Hi Paulo,

If the headset you have does not come with a mic then you will not get them to work, you would need to buy a headset that comes with a mic or buy a standalone microphone and both the headset need to have an audio jack 3.5mm.

_____
So it's not a problem, it's actually meant to work like that :(

No, I'm sorry, but whoever that is, they're either struggling with basic english or they don't have any idea what you're saying, but I understood it perfectly, again, it's not something you're doing wrong.

Hes thinking that you're saying the mic on the headphones isn't working when plugged in, he's not understanding that you mean the inbuilt mic on the laptop is stopping when inserting normal headphones.
