Pc lag

I notice that everytime i use my PC past 30 minutes, the system began to lag. In game or while browsing or even when it idles. It used to do that when i first bought it so I decide to format it (both drives) but still has the same problem. any ideas what the solution might be? thanks in advance

Post your specs mate also monitor your temperatures and post them here.

Ryzen 7 2600
RTX 2060 Super
16G RAM

GPU Temps are 65-69 ingame, 27-29 idle

Can play COD warzone and RDR2 but have to restart PC once it begans to stutter/lag
Newly formatted,no other games or apps on both drives
Scanned by Total AV, no other anti virus installed

By formatted do you mean fresh clean install of windows and reinstalling all software and drivers from scratch using windows update??

Is this a PCS system? If so, can you post the full spec list from your order page please

As above, what did you do when you "formatted" the drives?

Is your system fully updated, especially graphics card drivers?

What monitor are you running?

First thing I would do is uninstall Total AV and just use Windows Defender...may be fine but some anti-virus programs cause conflicts.
PC was formatted (C: and D:) via windows installation, meaning i boot the USB and did the step by step installation of WIN 10
GPU was updated via GeForce Experience app and drivers were updated by Win 10 and DriverMax
Monitor is an MSI 27" 144hz
Run PC without any Anti Virus software
By formatted do you mean fresh clean install of windows and reinstalling all software and drivers from scratch using windows update??
Yes, fresh clean install and drivers were updated using win update before i installed any other programs (apart from COD warzone coz thats how i test the system)
(after fresh format) at first coz thats what i suspected too but it still lagged

DriverMax will have likely messed up your system, you should never use any "driver updaters", they don't do what they say they do and in the worst instances, are just malware.

I would suggest a clean installation.

No i dont think DriverMax is the problem. I dont have Driver Max when i first bought the PC and it still lagged. I formatted my PC (Clean installation) and only COD Warzon is installed (all drivers updated via Win10) . No antivirus and it still lagged

A clean install is the best place to start. I doubt drive max is the cause, but either way, it's messed up your system. You need to have a clean system before we can troubleshoot.

Im of the process of again formatting my PC, hopefuly i can sort out what the problem is. I have a hunch that it might be hardware related

Don't install Drive Max, that's never the way to install drivers.

Allow windows updates to find all drivers, then you just need to install nvidia drivers direct from nvidia.

Third party tools like DriverMax should definitely be avoided. They're like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get! (Apologies to Forrest Gump).

Sad to say there is still lag happening after full reformat and all drivers updated by win10
Ok. In what sense does it lag. Can you describe in more detail what the lag issues is? Is it network related or not? You say it lags when idle - what do you mean by that?

It would seem to be hardware related now that you've done a clean install and used Windows Update to install all drivers, but to suggest where to look next we really need to know more about what you mean by 'it lags'? :)

okay,it lags/stutter when im in game, any game, especially after 20-30 mins of gaming. and when it does, everything stops for like 1 or 2 seconds, then resume again. and when its idle, the mouse pointer just freezes and there that blue circle beside it indicating theres activity regardless when all apps are closed.

im really not sure if its really network related coz i tried pulling the ethernet cable but its still the same

Ok, it does sound as though you have something running in the background consuming resources. The first thing to confirm is that it's not malware, so do a full scan with Windows Defender and then download and install Malwarebyet's Antimalware. When you install this be sure to not select the trial of their premium edition. If you do select this you'll have two antivirus engines running and that brings it's own problems. All you want is the on-demand scanner feature, you want none of the real time features at all - make sure they're turned off in the Malwarebyte's settings. Then run a full scan on all your drives - this will take a very long time, possible as much as 48 hours if that 4TB drive is full.

Once you're satisfied that your problem isn't malware we need to identify what is consuming resources (especially when idle). The quickest way to do that is to open the Task Manager. Click the performance tab and shrink the window so all you can see are the graphs on the left (that's all we need for now). Then click the Options tab and select Always On Top so you can always see it. Park this windows as much out of the way as you can and when you see it lagging, especially on idle with the blue spinning wheel, take a look and see which resource is at or close to 100%. It's probably the CPU but we need to confirm before looking deeper.

If you can identify which resource is being overutilised when it lags we can use another tool to find out which process(es) are causing that. :)

That issue sounds identical to what I had earlier in the year, though the lags/stutters were less than a second each time...namely trying to drive 150fps on a 75Hz monitor which was using 96% GPU resources.....dropping the fps to 60 solved it.

In your case, I wonder if you are running the GPU too hard...the 2060 Super is a low refresh (60-75Hz) card whereas you have a 144Hz monitor (am assuming it's a 1440p monitor?)....if you are trying to run it at high refresh/high frame rates, that may be the cause. If you do what @ubuysa recommends and there is nothing to indicate on that side, I would try capping the fps at 60 in whatever game you are playing and see if that solves it.

I could be completely wrong on what I have just said of course...just your issue is so close to what I suffered I thought it worth mentioning
Definitely worth looking at! :)

Is a 550W powerful enough for that build? Seems quite low but I'm not an expert at the 2060.

Stuttering/freezing can also be caused by your CPU, have you updated the BIOS since you've had the machine?
Have you run memtest or Cinebench on the machine to see if it freezes or locks up at a certain point?

Thank you for the insight, Ill keep it in mind for future references. I did a full format on all of my drives and re insall all of the necessary drivers and things have been good since then. COD Warzone have been then running smoothly at 100+ fps and no stuttering or lag.
