Budget is quite open. Just a casual gamer but playing with high detail and want something that will be good for at least 5 years or longer. Wanted storage so can store quite a bit of movies/games/music etc.

Not yet chosen keyboard/mouse/monitor so again open to suggestions. Mainly will play flight simulator 2020 but will play intensive games like far cry. Monitor budget again open to suggestion £500-£1000 and looking for it to be good for gaming and also for watching movies (but games should be the priority).

Any help is appreciated and thank you in advance.

Hi,

Thank you for the reply. I have added the editable link in post.

I would like play new and old games so if I need the 3900x I am willing to keep it.

Budget is 3000, can push it if justified to 4000. Please let me know if it an overkill in certain areas so can adjust.

My other dilemma was I wanted a case with an internal blu ray dvdplayer but cannot get a case I like. I don't think I will use the drive much so do I choose a case where it takes an internal drive or should external be fine without compromising case choice?

Monitor wise, I will have a look for the Samsung odyssey. Any other choices for a smaller monitor.

Also any recommendations for keyboard and mouse.

Sorry for the questions just want to make the correct choices if spending this amount of money.

Hi Nursemorph, thank you for your reply.

My laptop has packed up completely so need a new computer soon so willing to order ASAP.

I chose best gpu so don't need to upgrade. Max monitor size I was looking for was between 28 to 32 inches with G sync if needed. However if the Samsung is really good then I could opt for the 43 inch.

In regards to the blu ray player, if external speeds are not that affected, I can keep it external.

Any other suggestions to the actual build itself where it may need improving or is overkill. Should I get the keyboard mouse from PCS or are there other better choices. Many thanks

Hi there, Nursemorph and Spydertracks both recommended an ultrawide (34 inch AOC monitor) to me and it's game-changingly incredible. If you've got the room for that or bigger on your desk I would thoroughly recommend it. There's a lot of buzz about 4K but 1440p ultra/superwide is definitely the way forward.

Keyboard and mouse are personal choices, I've got a Corsair set-up and it's great for me but the SteelSeries range often come in with good reviews (they ain't cheap though!)

Hi agentcooper, would this be the one.

Its a lot cheaper than the Samsung one and looks good. Also would this be g sync compatible

That's the exact one! It's a belter! Not technically listed as G-Sync but is adaptive sync which is... essentially the same thing. I'm running Red Dead Redemption 2 on a RTX 2070 Super and even when the screen gets busy the sync keeps it looking very smooth.

However, if you've got the extra pennies, there's an updated model that runs at a 144hz refresh rate which you might prefer if you're an online gamer. Mine is 100hz which is fine for me as I primarily play single-player (and it's nice to have something to blame my terrible Rocket League performances on).

The AOC models are considered slightly budget but offer an incredible amount of bang for the buck (or punch for the pound if you're not keen on Americanisms).

Link for the updated model below...

That's an ultrawide which is quite significanly smaller (pixel wise) to a superwide. For an ultrawide you can reduce the GPU to a 2080 Super.

Thanks spydertracks. Any major difference in drop in graphics for gaming at 2080 super?

Also any other suggestions to the build

Just looking back over the spec, as Nursemorph said, the 3900x is pretty overkill for a gaming CPU and you'd only get any benefit on specifically older flight sims. Most games still run absolutely fine off a six-core CPU. I think if you went for the 3700x/3800x (eight-core) you'd be saving some money.

I'll definitely want to go superwide when the time comes for me to change monitor. As Mrs Cooper often tells me, bigger is better.

The graphical performance will be exactly the same on any card so long as it's matched to the monitor, just because you have a lower tier monitor doesn't mean worse graphics, just means you have a smaller number of pixels to run. Any system we spec will run at full graphical settings.

Hi,

Made a slight amendment

The idea of the ultra wide is appealing so will keep to the graphic card.

With the current configuration just want to make sure the case and cooling selected is fine and hopefully quiet.

This is better balanced, tbh, most of it is still quite rediculous, but have left the storage and case as it's a personal thing, this is configured for ultrawide (3840 x 1440), if you meant superwide (5120 x 1440) then up the GPU to 2080ti:

Hi spydertracks, thank you really appreciate the feedback. Sorry but any other changes you could recommend. If a better case is available at a lower price or the cooling needs changing.

The main things are the case and the drives, they're really overspecced IMHO. It may be that you have a particular need for them?

If not, for the case, perhaps the iCue 465X which is similar appearance but a lot cheaper. That being said, the 680x you have configured is actually my favorite case out of the lot, so let's see about drives first.

What are you requirements for the drives?

Hi, I feel like I may have over complicated it really sorry for the trouble.

I don't really have a specific case just want something that is good and will last a while and hopefully quiet

For the drives I feel more the storage the better. Curently have about 4 to 6 tb of data which I would like on main pc as well so I can access it when needed. so was future proofing it with all the drives. Ideally have tried to go for the fastest type
